I was always under the impression that people would choose to accept the mark, knowing that it’s evil. I don’t think people will mistakenly acquire the mark for seeking the avoidance of an illness.

This is actually a good question, not sure if it was meant a a mock.
Before the tribulation(when the anti-Christ reaches agreement with Israel) there is a set-up time, such as things that seem to be happening. Times can get really hard before that period, socialism has reeked havoc on innocent people throughout time, so in that regard a lot of people will suffer and likely die before that time begins, and before the rapture that you allude to.
Also, it’s naive to think Christians only worry about their own arse. Fighting an evil system, doesn’t assume we hate the innocent folks the evil people will harm.

Catholics are full of filth too. But I have yet to see catholics try justify those rapes with the bible. Sure, they've tried to bury these rapes, but not justify them.
Some protestant churches on the other hand have actually tried to do this in some cases. Like I said, most protestant branches are just full of quitters who make their own rules as they go. Some have even embraced abortion. Protestants are like "Christianity Lite".

The Mark of the Beast is denying the name of Jesus in exchange for keeping your life. It is something that we’ve seen in every era of church history. Whether it is Christians offering a pinch of incense of Caesar or Deutsche Christen of the 20th Century cozying up to fascism.
Who knows what this will look like during the Tribulation? But unless you have to exchange your confession of Jesus for a vaccine, then that ain’t it.
