A protest song is a song that is associated with a movement for social change. Post your favorites.

After the first two posts all you really need to do is throw in War by Edwin Starr, Living for the City by Stevie Wonder, Street Fighting Man and Sympathy for the Devil by the Stones and three fourths of everything Bob Dylan wrote in the 1960s and we are pretty much done with this topic.

For What It's Worth

One of my favorite songs....ever.

Many believe it is about Vietnam and the subsequent protests. It isn't.

Stills wrote it after the Sunset Strip Riots in late 1966. These were protests over a curfew enforced along the Sunset Strip (and specifically The Whisky A Go Go). The LA City Council had voted to not allow under-age clubs on the Strip (under 21) and to purchase Pandora's Box and demolish it. The protests started at Pandora's Box on the corner of Sunset and Crescent Heights in November and continued off and on for a while.
