EBR has a looming problem with their storm water plan.

Since 2008 EBR has been cited by the EPA and DEQ fir issued in their storm water mitigation plan. Talks have been ongoing for years, but nothing had been done yet.
Does that sound familiar? It dhojlf the last time we had issues like this, EBR was saddled with a consent decree costing us 100s of millions in tax dollars which we are still paying through higher and higher sewer fees and sales taxes.
Nothing was said about this before our recent election, but in typical Broome fashion she hadn’t done anything to address the problem. She like her predecessors will probably do nothing, the Feds will move in and force their plan on us, she will thdn Moab about his the Feds are making us raise taxes.
You can see this one coming. Get ready.

We already have action. Mayor Broome organized a discussion with key leaders. That makes me feel better knowing that the Feds will be placated and we won’t see our taxes go up for storm water fees.

Though Baton Rouge has not been forced into a consent decree, that could be coming soon: The parish is currently in talks with DEQ over longstanding problems identified with its SWMP that have yet to be corrected. Neither officials with the city nor DEQ, which administers the program for the EPA, will discuss the status of the talks, which they say are confidential because of legal issues. But it speaks to the seriousness of the problem—and the need to address it.

Not a surprise.
I’m sure if they solicited suggestions from the council, Chauna Banks would suggest lying to FEMA about whatever you lost.

Not a Surprise, True.
But why wasn’t this brought up before the election?
It’s a huge issue and certainly the mayor and council candidates should have been asked about it.
Our press really does very little anymore.

Because SWB would be expected to answer questions.
Given most questions she has answered in the past four years, I figure that would beg more questions she doesn’t want to answer.

It's amazing to me how many people have no issue just tossing garbage out of their car.

No doubt. The advocate wouldn't dare write a negative story on Broome.

Theoretically someone could go to a council meeting and try this.
And then Lamont Cole will eject them for non-germane comments, even if this was the subject before the council.

I wasn’t aware of this litter mound and has to google maps it. Sure enough you look at the north west corner by ward creek and the interstate, you can piles of trash from satellite. Can’t imagine what it looks like in person but the article paints an ugly picture

One would have to make their way out there and go searching for it.
Very familiar with that area and the rural life museum and even I was unaware of that mess back there.

True, we have a lot of trashy folks.
But our govt. doesn’t help things much when they allow broke signs to remain, weeds to grow in ditches snd in medians, and roads to become unkept and in disrepair.
But you are right, cleanliness starts at home. If you clean up where you live then it will rub off on your neighbors.

Shite, matt Watson was all about that and made videos constantly about the drainage but none of that mattered to anyone

I believe SWB doesn’t believe water runs downhill . Since the 2016 Historic Flood I’ve been pushing the drainage issue with my city councilwoman. At first she was receptive then started ignoring me.BR will flood again. I don’t believe the city can withstand and survive a second flood of this magnitude. People will just walk away. The drainage of the city parish has a capacity problem . The major creeks must be widened ( not dredged deeper) and there in lies the problem. In order to widen the creeks adjacent land must be purchased and our current leadership does not have the courage to do this.

Home videos don’t matter if the public never sees them.
Besides drainage was always an issue, but concerns were always about flooding. Thus appears to be more about mitigating trash, toxins and environmental issues.
Watson had some positive ideas, he just never put together a meaningful campaign.

EBR should consult with the NO S&WB for help on this issue.

Looks like it is suppressing the tree growth in that area
