I am Slightly concerned that O’s main concern on offense seems to be continuity
I understand it. We have an amazing offense in 2019. So I really do get it, and if we could keep that going it’s great.
My concerns are
1. that we’re maybe putting continuity over quality, and
2. As personal changes we need to be able to adapt the offense. For instance: they keep saying we had 1 RB run play in 2019 l, inside zone.
And that works when Joe is shredding defenses through the air and you have a guy like CEH who is strong through contact, and is great at reading blocks.
But when you don’t have that, you need more creativity in the run game.

It wasn't just Clyde's tackle breaking and vision, it was also his shiftiness. He would put dudes in the spin cycle on the regular, even when they were coming in completely unblocked.

We had the 15th ranked passing offense in the country this year and total offense was ranked in the 30s.
That was with 2 freshmen qbs and missing your top 3 pass catchers for most of the season. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the system in place.
No one is giving a script to the OC saying these are the only plays that you’re allowed to run. He’s being handed a playbook and being asked to run it and expand on it.
You want terminology and overall philosophies to stay the same.
This is the same thing Alabama has been doing since Kiffin left and it’s really the only way to handle it when you’re not an offensive minded head coach. You can’t afford to completely rebuild your offense every 2-3 years when you have to hire a new OC.

I think biggest shift in the game regarding offenses is keeping the D as “honest” as possible and making them account for as much of the field as possible and as many bodies on the field as possible. Variety, #s of play makers, and spacing all contribute to that. Brady was great at installing those aspects and we have a shite to of great play makers. The new OC will have to do that, coach up our players so we have more “play makers” and craft the offense to fit their strengths. I can assure you that if we had the RBs we had through the early 2010s Brady would’ve run a different O.

Very much agree. We should have an established style of play on offense and defense and that style will be adjusted based on the personnel at hand. Every now and then you will catch lightening in the bottle, but I believe for someone like coach O, personal connections and reliving the past should take a back seat to finding coaches with recent accomplishments to fall back on who can bring their own innovations and energy to the staff. I am less concerned about the hires that will follow on offense than I am with the defense.

That’s an exaggeration that we had 1 run play but it’s true we didn’t have many. We had the inside zone you spoke of, the outside stretch, some counters, pitches and a few HB delays. The secret to their success besides Clyde’s ankle breaking cuts and spins and ability to get small in the hole was that each run play had the ability to be run from different formations and different directions. What we lacked in number of running plays we made up for in near perfect execution of the plays we did run.
