Woman gets probation for robbing man she tied up for sex

NEWARK — A woman was sentenced to community control after she was found guilty of robbing a man who allegedly let her tie him up anticipating sex.

Ann Marie Bessie Eller, 28, of Newark, was found guilty of one count of robbery, a second-degree felony, in Licking County Common Pleas Court last week. A single count of first-degree felony kidnapping was dismissed in the case.

According to a criminal complaint filed in June, Newark police responded to a home in the 200 block of South Sixth Street on Nov. 5, 2019 on a reported robbery. Police said the victim reported he'd invited Eller, his then girlfriend of a few months, to his home on Nov. 4, 2019 to have sex.

"She tied him up to the futon in the bedroom, allegedly to have sex, and then, once she had him tied up, stole three firearms and his cell phone, which also held his bank card," the complaint stated. "He was able to get free by using a lighter to burn the rope and then cut it the remainder of the way. He then called police."

Newark police Sgt. Clint Eskins in June told The Advocate the victim was tied up for about 40-45 minutes before he was able to free himself and report the incident. No serious injuries were reported in the incident.
