Hypothetical: Could Nebraska Influence a New Conference?

Purely hypothetical...Does Nebraska have enough influence to form a new conference? Could they sway some PAC/AAC/MWC teams to join them? I read an article from The Denver Post a while back, clamoring for a Colorado/Nebraska reunion. Could Nebraska be desperate enough to win again? Could they try something like this and be willing to leave the money from the B1G on the table to get back to winning football games? I think they are closer to that state of mind than we all believe.
Great American Conference:
Nebraska
Colorado
Colorado St
BYU
Utah
TCU
Boise St
Houston
SMU
Nevada
If Nebraska got those schools together and sat down at a table, could they get a conference like that formed? Lots of old rivalries would be re-established in that conference. Lastly, would this new conference be considered a Power Conference with those members? Lets be honest, all of the schools i mentioned would at least listen (behind closed doors) in my opinion. Nebraska is a lost program. BYU is homeless. The PAC is irrelevant. The AAC and MWC are NEVER going to be seen as CFP worthy. I think that would be a very intriguing conference.

The only influence the Nubbers have would be in a conference of losers that includes the ChickenHawks.

That conference is basically the old Mountain West + Nebraska and Colorado. Good luck trying to convince the Committee to vote you in the top 4 to make the CFP.

This would be cool, but hard to see you convince Utah, TCU, and Colorado to leave their conference

Except its not anymore. Utah and TCU are in P5 conferences now. Cincinnati, BYU and Boise St are P5 type of programs. I think that conference has a lot of natural rivalries and makes geographical sense.

Why? The PAC is becoming more and more less interested in big time sports. Its become largely irrelevant. What has Utah and Colorado gained by joining the PAC... P5 Status and that's it! They would have that in a conference like this as well, but also be in a conference that is serious about winning in my opinion.

Because even though it’s irrelevant it still has a seat at the table as a P5 conference
The CFP committee looks first at P5 conferences. If one of those teams goes undefeated in the P12 they have a much better chance at making the CFP than the new conference which will be treated as a G5
The current CFP contract has negotiated with the current P5 conferences and ND
The G5 is on the outside looking in and it will take a lot more than that conference you listed to gain P5 status

Nebraska might as well just light a giant pile of money on fire

As u$ual, money would be the problem. Nebraska gets something north of $50 million as its Big 10 TV rev share... The conference you're proposing, with schools in Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Nebraska plus some second tier Texas schools is not going to come anywhere near that kind of TV rev number.

There would be some good rivalries in this conference.
Nebraska/Colorado
Colorado/Colorado St
BYU/Utah
TCU/SMU
Boise St/Nevada
Nebraska/Colorado
Colorado/Colorado St
BYU/Utah
TCU/SMU
Boise St/Nevada

How did CU gain P5 status by leaving the Big 12 for the Pac?

I couldn't disagree with you more brother. Any conference with Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, TCU and BYU in would be treated as a P5. Period!

Utah possibly could leave.
I think Colorado is fat and happy after getting more money than they had in the Big 12 along with a higher academic standing through association with Pac 12 schools rather than Baylor and Texas Tech.

Minor oversight on Colorado, but my point is still there, they thought they were leaving for a better conference...turns out, the PAC isn't better...at all!

They left b/c it looked like the Big 12 was going to collapse and leave them without a conference. If Texas hadn't been trying to take half the conference to the Pac without them they never would have jumped. They were just protecting themselves.

I hear that, i do, but i just think the appeal of rejoining old rivalries in a conference free of Texas and Oklahoma would be intriguing to them. Equal revenue sharing! From a purely competitive standpoint and geographical standpoint...and even recruiting standpoint, this conference would be a win for most of the schools listed in my honest opinion.

This implies that the athletic department holds the cards.
I think the school administration would scuttle any plans to take what would be seen as a backwards step academically.

Nebraska doesn’t wield a whole lot of power outside Nebraska. They need to just go back to the Big 12.

No they would not
They also would have to renegotiate with the CFP committee to add them as a P5 to the selection process (in this case P6? Or would they cut out the P12? Which I don’t believe they would)
They have no power to do that with any of those schools
And certainly don’t have any power than any of the schools in the current P5 for any P5 to lose its status and give it to this new conference
