Recommendations for best small tractor for small farm/house and can handle all property needs without breaking the bank? Diesel or gas?

Diesel. Without knowing your size requirements, I consider my Deere 4120 small. I use it for everything on 32 acres. I wouldn't want to go smaller for my requirements. I have the tires filled with water/glycol and can move 6x5 round bales. The thing that gets used most is the pallet forks on the self leveling loader. Diesel, hydro tranny, self leveling loader (if avail) are my recommendations.

For versatility, there is no comparison. Tractor wins hands down.
But if you're working on 15 acres and cutting 5, you might want both.

So ultimately which tractor would work as a excellent mower too. Kubotas have much better pricing than the deere

For mowing, the best tractor is one with turf tires. They won't rut up your yard like other types. You'd have to check out the differences between belly and 3ph mowers.
I have 23 acres in St. Tammany. Front 6 acres gets cut with a zero turn and the back gets taken care of with a tractor.

Kubota or Mahindra are great tractors. JD are also fantastic but you pay extra for the green.
I’d say 4WD and Front End Loader are necessary. Implements and size will really depend on what you are planning to do. I have a 35 hp and it does most of what I need. A little smaller or a little larger depending on what you’re planning to run.
If you only have 5 acres cleared/cuttable, I’d also suggest using a Zero Turn to mow. We’ve had a couple threads on here about the difference, and to me the speed and comfort of the ZT is way better than a tractor with belly or finishing mower. You can also cut all around the house, less chance for ruts, and maneuver around trees and other fixtures much better.

Thanks for the info. It appears that I will need both at 1 time or another so leaning towards getting a tractor first to work on it to do some maintenance while I'm building my house then get a ZT after I move in for the regular "fast" cuts.

Look at LS Tractors. They are solid tractors and priced much lower than Kubota or Mahindra.
Check out Big B Sales in Sicily Island, Louisiana. They have clients from all over the state, southern Arkansas, and from Mississippi. They offer tractor/trailer packages as well. At times they even have used models.

Definitely a tractor. Diesel, 4wd with a bucket. These are non negotiable in my book. We have a Kubota 2320 that fits our needs perfectly, its small but able to do a little bush hogging twice a year and move mulch and top soil with the bucket.
