Good for you. Pfizer’s limitations section didn’t address a concern of mine for their vaccine. I have no idea how those who were in the study behaved once they enrolled in the study.

RN myself, so why take an unproven vaccine for a disease that has a greater than 99% survival rate if you are not Obese and 80?

Why is it dumb to not want a rushed vaccine for a virus that’s been here less than a year and has a 99% survival rate?
Because the survival rate of folks who take the vaccine is A LOT better than that of those who get the virus.

It’s pretty evident based on what I said. Pfizer’s article on their vaccine didn’t address behavioral patterns of their cohort. As in, once they enrolled did they alter their behavior such that they may or may not have been more at risk?

I have a good friend that’s an ICU nurse and her and I have been discussing the vaccine for the last month. She was back and forth about it, decided she would take it when offered, then caught Covid THIS week from her kids. She said she still plans on taking the vaccine. When I asked why, she stated it’s proven to have longer lasting immunity than the actual virus. She swears that’s what she’s been told by her doctor friends and specialist in immunology.
We had that conversation just yesterday! Don’t crucify the messenger.

At risk of what? There was a control group, so both groups would have been at the same risk.

If she just had covid they recommend you wait 2-3 months until getting vaccine

Yeah no shite. One group got the vaccine, one group got the placebo. Neither group knew what they got. Did participants in any group alter their day-to-day behavior once enrolled in the trial? It seems pretty important to me to know if people began to take more or less risk than they otherwise would on the “hopes” they were vaccinated.

It's interesting to me that every physician I know would take the vaccine in eyeball if they had to, but nurses are like "nah, I'm good".
Do you also have that attitude with the Flu shot? Do you turn down other vaccines when they are offered?

Maybe that’s what she meant. Her exact message to me was “I still plan on taking the vaccine.”.

Stop reading articles you find on Facebook.
My wife is physician, we're also trying to have a baby. She got the vaccine yesterday.
She's smarter than you and made that decision.
Think about it.

I said "no thank you". Was I wrong?
No, I think everyone should make their own decision...and live with whatever consequences result. I’m high risk so I am going to take the vaccine as soon as it is available to me.
I think your only obligation is to be damn sure you don’t give the virus to anyone else if you catch it.
Posted on 12/17/20 at 8:07 pm to Topisawtiger
I’m supposed to get it next week but I won’t.
frick all that.
frick all that.

Yep. Don’t take flu shot. Won’t take this one.

The mortality rate for my demographic is almost non-existent. There’s not any wiggle room for A LOT better.
