Alongside potential obstacles such as job loss, financial insecurity, and a subsequent inability to cover many upcoming bills, many Americans are now facing potential home loss as well.
According to a recent survey by the U.S. Census Bureau, of the estimated 17 million adults who are not current on their rent or mortgage payments, a whopping 33% of them could be facing eviction or foreclosure in the “next two months”

But the Corona bros response would be to say “just freeze all evictions and start printing checks to people.” It’s like wow, all this time we could have just not ever paid rent/mortgage and been given free money, why haven’t we been doing that, sounds nice”, oh wait because that’s not how the economy works, now I remember.

He wants to screw all of those wealthy landlords. No way they need money.

President-elect Joe Biden expressed his desire for measures such as rent forgiveness back in March 2020, but it remains unclear what actions will be taken under the new administration when inauguration occurs on January 20th, 2021.

Houston’s numbers are higher at the moment because the Harris County judge has completely shut down all foreclosures since April. So they’ve been stacking up. In every other Texas county foreclosures have been proceeding monthly although a fewer number than normal months due to the Fannie/Freddie moratorium which will expire at the end of the year.

Any rent forgiveness ideas I’ve seen have been reimbursed by the government. It’s still a terrible idea, but it’s not as drastic as getting nothing.

Friend,
Masks and vaccines, and like you say, washing hands frequently, are the way to end this pandemic and its ripples upon our economy.
