I had a middle school teacher with a PhD in French that would get annoyed if a student referred to her as Mrs.

And on the other end of the spectrum Whoopi was on The View talking about how "Dr. Jill" would make a great Surgeon General (not a Bee article).

The "Dr's" should be some sort of physician whether it's an M.D., DO, DDS, ETC.

I'll never forget the time a student called a professor Mrs/Ms and said "Dr, please."

I felt like saying you're not physician so come off it.

Friend,

DDS? LOL. I mean, they certainly are better educated than chiropractors and most education Ph.D. holders, but hold your horses comparing them to M.D. and D.O. holders. Dentists are lower on the totem than podiatrists.

In a classroom setting, it is certainly acceptable and courteous behavior to honor a professor as Dr. if she holds a Ph.D.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

If they are a professor, I am calling them "Professor xxxxxx" that way if they lose their shite, they won't have any rational argument that you were disrespecting them. and they'll just look like a crazy person.

I know a guy that got his PHD in Social Work just so he could do that.

Look, i have no problem calling a phd Dr.____, especially in a professional setting, school, etc.

But I literally heard media saying “Jill Biden is a doctor”, or “She’s a doctor”...no, she’s a PhD. (That teaches elementary school)

How should someone with a master’s degree be addressed?

Master?

by earning a Doctorate you have earned the right to be called a Doctor. Are you an idgit?

It was a perfectly reasonable take.

The actual wording of it was patronizing and idiotic. The author called her kiddo, apropos of nothing. It was definitely designed to get clicks and generate reactions.

Well, yeah. We called her Dr and I got (earned) an "A" from her.

Don't dentists have the potential to make more money than a GP? Unless they're oral surgeons, they don't require as much insurance, right?

You certainly have earned that, but as with signing documents with the title of Dr. you should specify as to the specific nature of your doctorate. The real issue here is just that the media is throwing around Biden's name with doctor knowing that it's creating an inference that she is a medical doctor of some sort. Typically when people introduce a PhD Dr. in interviews or have a banner giving their name below they will reference the phd, same with medical doctors.

Where are you from? I had a middle school French teacher this sounds like.

I mean there can’t be that many middle school French teachers with PhDs, can there?
