The money that’s goes into a ceramic is more on the prep side than the coating. You have to polish the whole car before you apply and that takes a good 4-6 hours

Absolutely. A good ceramic job is at least a minimum 3-4 day process of washing, paint correction, and ceramic application. The paint surface has to be perfect as any imperfections would be "locked" in once the ceramic coating is applied. That's why I wouldn't trust any professional detailing shop quoting less than $1500 to $2000.

Regardless of what people tell you it takes up to 12 hours to do it “right”. You could just polish you vehicle then apply a ceramic coat in an hour but it will do absolutely nothing that regular wax would do. It’s a step by step process that is boring and time consuming.

I have heard you can only use a touchless carwash (or wash by hand) or it voids the warranty.

For about 20 years I've known someone who makes their living taking care of super high end cars in California (Pebble Beach, etc) and he's never thought much of the ceramic coatings.

No but I wish whoever had this truck before me did. If you are buying a new vehicle, I think that would be the wise thing to do though.

Couldn’t you just clear wrap the vehicle?

I washed, clay barred, waxed, and ceramic coated my daughters mustang in about 2.5 hours. Easy enough.

Google “Ceramic Coating Warranty”.
For example.....
“Damage to the coated surface by incorrect manual wash techniques, automatic car washes, brushes or contaminated wash tools that may cause abrasion, or damage caused by a third party not authorized by Shine Works Detailing LLC.”
Warranty
And check out page 2 and 3 of this warranty.

Which “Ceramic Coat” did you use? If you did all of that in 2.5 hours I’m guessing it was a Spray.
There is a large difference in Spray Ceramics and hand rubbed ceramics. Even the higher brands like Adams have Spray but their actual longevity is like 6 months compared to 1-2 years actual on hand rubbed.
Yes there are very distinct care steps for Ceramics. Not following will decrease the life of the coating just like any other coating you apply.
