I think most everyone believes the death and the heartbreak are real. The issue here is how can we be sure the money donated will actually be used to pay for the funeral and not a bender or worse, contribute to him ODing?

For donating $20,000 to the man? We owe him an apology? Interesting.

Facebook made it very clear via photos. I tried to politely say this earlier.

No one really doubts the basis. That his wife died. Not sure how much I believe about him going to the ER, forgetting the GFM... those parts. Could be true and likely he was high on something. Either way, 20k is a lot of money to give these people who only know how to do one thing with excess cash.

No, not scammed. His wife is deceased. Donating before all the craziness came out? Guilty.

that is just so wrong and you all owe him an apology

Look, if someone did pass away I am sorry for the loss, but no one owes him shite. If anything, even if he ends up with only a quarter of what was raised he needs to be thankful.

And you might want to not worry about telling people on a message board they owe him an apology and go find him help.

I hate to say this, but this is typical behavior of an addict. If I had to guess, you were made aware of how much was originally raised, so you get on his account and try to double down by trying to make people feel bad in hopes those who requested their money back would redonate.

The problem is, you are so out of your fricking mind, you are posting under his account thinking you started your own. So you probably need help as well. Its just sad that there are kids in the middle of it all.

Addiction is a huge problem and its sad that those who are addicted take advantage of people's kindness, especially around the holidays. At first I thought his story was heart breaking, but I wouldn't dare donate because I am always skeptical. And its people like you who are the reason that people like me don't give (unless I am 100% sure I know it will be used for good)

So you want an apology? Here is your apology

Sorry for him then. I don't have the time to read through all 50+ pages. From a quick look it seems that dropping $20k on this family might do more harm then good. Good luck

I mean it wasn't one donation, this was a collective of people that did it. None of us that donated in the very beginning had any control over how high it got.

Something about that person saying he is owed an apology worked me up a little bit.

What do you mean? Did gofundme freeze the account? If not, maybe someone more technical needs to log into the account.
