I definitely know this is one of the much smaller issues that need to be addressed and taken care of but I hope he puts an end to that this off season. Leaders will lead, they don't need some special number to do so. And we don't need to give some guy #7 to feed his ego and make him feel extra special.

Fwiw I thought the 7 was kind of cool with Patrick Peterson and Mathieu but then again I was like 16 at the time.

It seems more recent years these number traditions have gone to players who have ended up not living up to the hype

I'm fine with one or the other, having two just seems ridiculous.

I’m done with the tradition. I rather the players make a name for themselves with their own numbers and not have the pressure when they get #7 or #18.

#7 should be something that Defensive backs can choose to wear if they want

#18 should be passed on from one player to another player. When the coaches got involved in that tradition, they ruined it.

The 7 and 18 traditions are fine.

The problem is they get forced onto some players instead of earned.

Cush and Chaisson earned the right to wear 18. Both had a large number of starts and had already become leaders on the field prior to getting the #18. Curry and Clark had not, so they should've never gotten it this year.

#7 to Giles was a mistake. #7 to Chase this year was not, however, when Chase opted out, the number should've been held out for someone who earns it this year to wear in 2021.

When you just assign it to someone who hasn't earned it, it gets watered down.

Les was much better at choosing them.

That’s revisionist history, Chaisson had only played in his freshmen year and the Miami game in his sophomore year when he got #18. I liked the decision but he hadn’t started many games.

I mean the program takes it pretty seriously do they not? They have a plaque of all the guys who have worn the numbers in football ops. They pick a special day to announce the new guys every year and the social media teams release a video hyping it. I just think the tradition has played it course and like another poster said, it’s gotten watered down. Seems like a good time for O to just get these guys playing for the name on the front again. Leaders will rise to the top

He needs to keep the poison away too and quit letting any alumni close to the program. There is a reason most Head Coaches restrict access from the team. All these alumni may be great, but ONE ROTTEN APPLE WILL SPOIL IT. HELLO RYAN RACIST CLARK

I like #18 as it was started years ago and usually passed down to a 5th year senior that was already a team leader. Should go back to that. #7 should have stayed a one time thing with PP and TM. It was completely ruined when Fournette got it before he had ever stepped on campus as a student

Agreed. This is nothing more than another issue to create resentment and division within the program from someone who thinks he deserves to be awarded the number and those who support him. Given the current environment it would be more pronounced if a white player receive it ahead of a black player. This might generate another players led missed practice march to the president's office which Orgeron is not informed of until after it occurs.

Should only give when it is earned by an upperclassman.
