The same way I approach every other putt. Just pick a line and try to hit it with the right speed

I’ve only had 1 ever and it was from the fringe about 10 ft. Missed it but tap in birdie

I try to make it. But I’m someone who likes to let the ball “die” into the cup. I’m rarely 3’+ past the hole unless it’s a big misread on speed.

As an elite tournament player,I did have 2 eagle putts in member guest when they let me play up. I managed 1 par with a solid 3 putt and 1 birdie with a 8 footer on the second putt. Won both holes in the competitive 7th flight, but you might not be dealing with such highly pressurized situations during a casual round. In my flight the crucible of competition separated the mediocre from the okay. Iron sharpens iron.

I often make a solid putt for a net par in my Saturday league after striping a 5 wood 178 to 30 feet. I don’t want to hijack the tread, but yesterday I started and finished with a par on my way to a smooth 88 (net 76) including several almost sandies and a chip in par from the whites.

In competitions like the masters or a 5some wolf game,it’s all about understanding situational golf. When you can back up a birdie with some pars and net pars, the game gets a bit easier as far as handling the pressure. I’m only carrying 12 strokes from the whites so as an elite stick I have to understand where I have a shot and play accordingly.

Guessing this was #9 and 11 at Bayou Bend. I concentrate on hitting the putt solid on an aggressive line.

Once I learned that every putt had the same value I started making a lot more of them. That eagle putt is no different than a par putt or even a bogey putt. I probably get more excited making a tester bogey putt to save me from a double than an eagle make.

Same way I approach any other putt: good speed on the line I see to give the ball a chance to go in and if not leave an easy second putt.

Oddly enough, I had two eagle putts in my round on Tuesday. I haven't had that happen ever. I lipped the first one out from 15-ish feet and made the second one from 6 feet.

I always go back to the stats you see posted during PGA Tour telecasts while those guys are putting. Shotlink stats for the 2020 season show that the best players in the world only make 5% of putts over 25 feet. Why would I get upset if I don't make my eagle putt from 30 feet? Even from 10 to 15 feet, the best players in the world only make 3 out of 10 putts. So the probability of us regular Joes making our 20 foot putt for eagle is really low. Try to lag in close and get your birdie. If it goes in, it's lagniappe.

When I belonged to Fort Bend CC in Richmond Tx, I eagled 6 of the 18 holes in 8 years.

2 par 4, fly in 2nd shot, lucky
3 par 5's
1 par 3 hole in one, 206 five iron

As I get older the eagle chances are getting fewer and fewer so If I get the chance, I am getting the ball to the hole.
