We used to have pius people among us that everyone looked to for hope, guidance, justice, morality, humility etc.

We had Pope John Paul II that even non-Catholics regarded as trustworthy and whose opinion was given great weight. The new Pope sits with NBA millionaires instead of the poor and afflicted.

We had Princess Diana who demurred in being the future Queen but tried to help the poor and unfortunate during her time as princess. She was stoic in the face of shame and embarrassment by her prince.

We had Mother Teresa who performed miracles and sacrificed her life for the poor and afflicted. People came to her for healing and prayer.

These three people are just a few in the last 3 decades that have had a significant impact the loss of which has left a significant void in the morality of the world. There is no great moral voice or voices showing us how to get along with each other.

Why do people who have the most do the least for others? (I know this isn’t true of everyone but generally speaking) the millionaires and billionaires could save thousands if not millions of lives. Instead they preach to us and think they are special because they have more money than us.

I see all these young females and males glorifying themselves (some would call it other things but I’ll be generous) on social media. They all think they are models or something special. They are showered with money, gifts and food because they travel or pose for pictures or engage in debauchery.

Why don’t we reward the people who travel to countries to feed the poor or build houses for the poor? Why aren’t those people showered with money? How come we don’t promote selflessness and sacrifice for our neighbors? Instead we accuse others of being racists, sexist or bigots and harming any chance to build a better tomorrow.

This is probably too deep for The OT. I know we have a few here that might have ideas on how to breakthrough this unfortunate paradigm. I’m all ears.

Ever wondered how the Nazis came to power? A huge clue could be their innovative exploitation of a relatively new form of mass media: radio.

Are we just doomed to repeat history again, forever?

Well, a bunch of priests molesting kids and getting away with it doesn't help.

You gotta read up on her, because she had her demons just like everyone else.

The problem with making movements about people instead of ideas is people are flawed.

Ummm, she was a vapid girl without a stray thought in her head. She was completely ate up with celebrity culture. How she became this icon is beyond me.

I’m pretty sure this is just a simulation and it gets crazier the longer you’re in it.

People have no respect for their souls anymore - more and more don’t even believe in a soul

It’s all about the body - how I look, what makes me pretty or happy or satisfied

The soul reflects how we treat others and the body reflects how we treat ourselves - ourself has become more important

Which is not necessarily a bad thing if we don’t forget our souls

quote:

Why don’t we reward the people who travel to countries to feed the poor or build houses for the poor?

The people I know who do this are happy enough to do it without recognition.

We have to learn to be grateful for everything, have faith, and know we are trying our best to do the right thing despite what’s going on as the media shows us. The focus isn’t on pious people right now but they’re out there.

I agree that ideas, not people should be idealized. Princess Diana had a lot of affairs and so did MLK. However, outwardly they portrayed a good image and they also both did a lot of good. These days, people don’t even try to portray a good image. I think that’s the difference. The “heroes” of years ago seemed to at least try to live up to the ideal. There are still people who do good, but being “bad” is too often glorified.
