Basketball MTE Games - Beware the Flo Hoops Scam
Posted on 11/19/20 at 11:28 am

Basketball fans, please pay attention to this post if you plan to watch next week's games in the Golden Window Classic via Flo Hoops. I plan to bump this throughout the next week to keep it first page or mods, please feel free to sticky it at least till next Thursday.
TLDR version:
- Flo Hoops is likely (at this point) the only way to watch the games.
- Don't fall for the $12.50/mo. scam unless you actually want an annual subscription and to pay $150 total.
- If you just want LSU games next week, then choose the "MONTHLY" plan for $29.99.
- Detailed explanation below
The event is being put on by "Elevate Hoops" and according to their site and the event site, they have not officially announced tv or streaming plans and said they will once available.
However, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the games will only be "televised" through online streaming and that Flo Hoops (Sports) is the likely provider since they are the only ones advertising it thus far. Here is the link to the event page: LINK
BEWARE OF FLO HOOPS!
I'll start by saying I've never used them before, so I can't vouch for how reputable or quality the stream is; but a user on 247 mentioned something about being careful as they will charge you $150, when most are thinking (already seen some posts on here) that it will cost just $12.50. So I did a little digging on their site and discovered what the poster is talking about.
The site does not give much info. regarding the service or plans. When you begin the sign-up process and get to step 3 of picking your plan, there are 2 options that show up - "Monthly" and "Yearly". The site defaults to the "Yearly" and makes it appear as though you are only paying $12.50 per month. Well, that is true, you will only pay that much per month; however, you are locked into an annual subscription and they will charge you a total of $150 for the year ($12.50 x 12 mo's). Likely this total is charged upfront; however, the site does not say anything regarding that.
The "Monthly" plan is what you will want to likely choose as next week is probably the only time you'll want them (although I do know LSU gymnastics and softball are sometimes on Flo Sports, assuming that this subscription gets you access to all those). The monthly plan is a steeper price though of $29.99.
So if you are wanting to watch LSU next week, you'll either be shelling out $29.99 on the low end or $150 on the high end if you purposefully or accidentally choose the "Yearly" option.
If anyone has contradictory or better info. from experience than this, please share in this thread.

Would appreciate it if those of you that find this info useful and think others need to see it, to hit the "Request Admin" button and choose the "sticky" option in order to keep the thread at the top of page for the next week.

There will be some free streams available the day of.
Don't bash me for stating or using the free streams, I'm not the creator.
When the day comes I'll share if anyone wants them.

Agreed. I'm holding out as long as I can to see if, one, the games actually get played, and, two, if they are the only streaming option to watch.

No bashing. Companies like Flo Sports kind of bring it on themselves when they are charging this ridiculous of a price and then trying to scam customers into paying even more on top of that.

They did this with baseball last season as well. There were some non-LSU games I was interested in watching, but I never did because they only gave those two options you mentioned.
I don't see why an event specific charge wouldn't work. I'd pay a few bucks to watch specific games. And if I felt like there was enough stuff on there that I would continue to watch, then I might spring for the subscription.
But they handle events and tournaments mostly. I'm not going to pay $30 to watch a few games on one weekend and then nothing else because the catalog sucks.

This is a good strategy. There is no guarantee that this Nebraska thing will go off as planned. It could get moved somewhere else and changed altogether.

quote:Flo sports sucks cock. Theyre a big name in track/cross country and are God awful. I think they have the rights to teh only NCAA championship not shown for free (cross country) and charge out the arse for it. Theyre coverage is good but not worth the price tag. Plus theyre stories covering the sport are ridiculously bad. I refuse to give them any of my money.

I'm just replying so that I can find this next week. Thanks TigerLaw40

Thank you VERY much for the heads up.
I will probably find somewhere to stream it free, reddit, etc.
However, if I can't get a quality stream, I'll gladly pay the $30 for the three games.
In case I do end up with Flo Hoops, you probably saved me $120 and long hold times on the phone followed by screaming at some rip off artists about getting my money back.
So thanks. Boot up Tigers!

Because some of us are little more diehard and dedicated than that.
I’m excited to see what will be 1 of the 2 LSU teams with a legit shot at a championship this year. And this season is already delayed and cut a few games short as it is; so I want to see everyone of them I can.
