If Nick Saban runs a 3-4, Ed O should run a 3-4

Simple fact is, Saban was smart enough to see where the college game was going years ago. The spread offenses in this day and age take advantage of 4 man fronts with quick passes and underneath routes. 3-4 defenses allow for more athletes on the field to cover in space and see the zone blocking most offensive lines implement today. Coach O needs to correct his mistake. ASAP

Having a 3 or 4 man front is not indicative of "where the college game has gone".
Clemson runs a 4-2-5 and is hugely successful on defense. Same with Ohio State. you do not need to be in 3-man front to be successful on defense.

Bama runs a 4-2-5 as well. When they began getting shredded by A&M and Ole Miss because their defense was slow and unprepared for uptempo offenses he made the switch to a nickel defense. Teams like Auburn and now Miss St. run the 3-3-5.

What in the cuck is this crap?

People reach for anything to bitch about. 3-4 is the base which teams may actually be in 20% of the time if that. Every team is in some sort of nickel most of the time and most times with a 4 man front. Also the "additional" athlete you're talking about is usually a 250+ pound pass rusher so essentially a DE. Chiasson was our "additional" athlete last year and him playing in space wasn't exactly the ideal position to put him in. Bamas this year are pass rushers Chris Allen and Will Anderson. Neither are guys you want chasing a RB or TE in coverage.

Trump is married to Melania. I should be married to Melania.

It’s all preference. The bottom line is, regardless of what formation you use, you have to execute. If don’t execute, you get the results we’re seeing.

It also depends on your players. Saban recruited tons of LBs who could stop the run.
Ed O has been recruiting for 3-4 in recent years, and this sudden change to 4-3 is a little baffling.

The personnel differences are overstated. Whether BJ Ojulari is a rush OLB or a hand-in-dirt DE, he’s playing the same role. We would still have problems at ILB.

I just wish LSU would go back to putting 11 players on defense... seems like they are always missing a player somewhere

You Saban lovers are so ate up with this Saban worship it stinks.
Saban runs a 3-4 base but he morphs into A four man dying often.
Clemson and Ohio State also run a 4-3 base. It’s not like the 4-3 is an exotic defense that few implement. The fact is if bet they are way more 4-3s than 3-4s currently. One reason is that a true NG is a liability on pass plays. They are mainly huge guys who plug the middle and are run stoppers.

The biggest issue is that our DT suck and our secondary has no idea what’s going on.

You’re literally just making stuff up lmfao. They’ve been in the nickel the whole season, still run a 3-4, which is more of a 3-3-5 in nickel.

Meh - they occupy 2 blockers, typically, and the good ones are athletic enough to at least threaten the passer if you block them with 1 - I think this part of the 4-3/3-4 discussion is a wash. There are just way more guys (from a quantity standpoint) who can be effective playing a 2-technique at 300 to 315 pounds, versus the giant NGs who are 340 to 360.

They run a 3-4 but it’s more multiple than Aranda’s
They don’t have the huge NT and he doesn’t line up directly over the center
They run a tithe front a lot with their jack lb on the line
They also run dime and a 3 safety look a lot - which Aranda did often especially at the end of last year
