What are the chances of that ever happening
We can host mardi gras and the Essence Fest, so the Olympics could be a breeze lol.

Nice dream, but a bridge too far. Would need to build or remodel several venues and then what do you do with them after it's over. And there's still the mess left over from Katrina. There's also the weather. N.O. in August can get pretty bad (heat-humidity) and I think some of the athletes would not like that. Also, it's hurricane season. Now that could get ugly.

I wouldnt rule out ever...but it would take a huge turn around. If New Orleans comes back with a vengeance and becomes a shining star of the south then yes we could host
Do its possible, but no probable.

having the games during a hurricane would be way more exciting.

well i heard on fienbaum one time that the mayor or birmingham wanted to place a bid for a summer games. if they ever get it i hope biloxi gets the winter games one day.

It's certainly logistically possible, and I'd love to see it one day, but the leadership in New Orleans is just way too incompetent and corrupt to handle it.

Exact same chance as New Orleans getting the summer games, ever.

It takes a very big city with a pretty decent infastructure already in place. It would take a huge investment to build all of the venues and such and I don't think the city or the state would be willing to do it, even with the help from the IOC.
The public transportation system in N.O. would be a huge knock as well.

Houston could do it. New Orleans lacks the money, organizers, infrastructure, and space.

It wouldn't make the round of 32
Posted on 8/9/08 at 4:25 pm to danfraz
i wouldn't mind seeing it in ny one day.

I disagree. Remember, not everything has to be confined to the city limits of the host city. Some of the Beijing venues are many miles away from the city.
But like I said, with the idiots who control the city now, it would be impossible.

i think chicago has a good chance at getting the games in the next selection but i feel that rio will get it since no games have ever been hosted in south america.

and weather there was one of the big problems with the games in Atlanta.
NOLA is too small for the Olympics, moving forward you will only see the Olympics is big cities like Beijing and London. In the US, LA might be the best chance, NYC is just too compact. Chicago maybe.
