I don’t think loyalty to Pelini is in play here. Question is timing of the firing. Fire him now and you’re in limbo land with no DC until next year which may or may not be worse than where you currently are. Plus the next DC is watching and wondering how much rope he’ll get. Orgeron also has a locker room that isn’t connecting with him so he doesn’t know which problem to solve first.

Personally, I’d fire Pelini now and bench a couple of starters and see where things land. But I guess O needs to work through all the pros of cons.

It's a bad look to fire a coordinator mid-season. Almost never happens and isn't the buyout less after the season anyways? I'm fine with taking some of his coaching responsibilities away but not firing him until the end of the year like they did with Canada.

I just want him gone before LSU steps on the field at the Rose Bowl next year.

No point in firing pelini right this second. Let him finish this season and then shite can his arse. Go after best defensive coordinator available in offseason. The season is already over, doing something right now will just throw fuel on the fire.

Where is LSU gonna find $5,000,000 to fire Pelini right now ? The football program just lost $80,000,000 due to COVID.

Why do anything before the end of season? Are you trying to save this (meaningless) season?

O is in deep shite more than he realizes. He has to fire Bo, then whoever he hires LSU will have to overpay to get. If Bo's replacement doesn't produce drastic improvement immediately, its over for Ed at LSU.

Combination of scheme change, not having the correct players for his version of 4-3 and lack of off season to get the players ready.

Ed may give him a 2nd year.

The argument of the next DC you hire being worried about how much rope they get makes no sense. A. If you have a historically bad defense and don’t at least trend upward as the year goes on then yes you get kicked to the curb B. Any elite DC will not be worried about being fired after one year because the product they put on the field will be much better than what we have seen

This is one of the worst defenses in the last thirty years of the program. 1999 and 2008 might be in the same ballpark. It literally can’t get any worse than losing to two of the three worst teams on the schedule and losing in historic fashion to a mediocre auburn team.

LSU shelled out $2.3 mil a year for a washed up Pelini who hadn’t coached a down of Power 5 football in five years, and who had zero other schools bidding against LSU. He’ll collect another $5 mil if he’s canned. Every DC in the country not named Mike Elko or Brent Venables would take that.

There are obvious locker room problems but the downvotes come out when this is mentioned. I think every knows what the problem is but they are too apprehensive to come out and say it.

The explanation of this locker room divide could go a LOOOOONG way in determining just how bad a hire Pelini was or was not.

If there is outside influence on the team cohesion.......then it doesn't matter who the DC is. It doesnt. If the players feel used/abused or pissed off, then they weren't able to pick up on the scheme of the BEST DC ever to the worst. THere could be a refusal by the players. Its not new.

I say fire his arse now and pay his salary for the rest of the year, but that’s it. There has to be some clauses in there that can let LSU off the hook. Fight that shite in court.

Can't fire him now. No money to do so. Layoffs and pay cuts.

Just to answer the issue about firing Pelini...

Total Yards Allowed (By Week)
1: 632 (MSU's only Win, most points, and best performance by far this year)
2: 266 (Vandy's 2nd best offensive game of 2020)
3: 586 (Mizzou's best offensive game by 165 yards, and most points)
4: 403 (USCe 2nd best performance of year)
5: 510 (AU most points and total yards of season)

They could coach themselves on the field and do better than these numbers

There are serious recruiting implications as well. If you give the slightest hint of instability in the coaching ranks, you could have a lot of decommits that you’ll have to mitigate and do serious damage control.

Send him to the press box for now. He's gone 1/1/21 along with this damn year.

As much as it’s the move that needs to happen O can’t have it happen. Not yet. He’s used up his big get out of jail free card with Matt Canada. This will take some finesse. Bo will have to agree to take a smaller buyout and he gas all the leverage right now. Our best hope would be Bo’s defenses play better these last few games and TE gets an offer to coordinate a defense somewhere in the Midwest at a smaller group of 5 or FCS school. He would still get a portion of the big LSU money but he will also he free of the disaster that has been this year and never have to see Baton Rouge again. You can bet he never wishes he was still head coach at Youngstown making way less money but getting those Nebraska payments too. His dreams of a power 5 head coach are dead forever how though and he’s got to know that.

isee what you are saying. it's clear as day to all in ncaa sports (including agents for coaches) that LSU defense under pelini is ATROCIOUS.

i dont think this is a scneario where it looks like pelini wasnt given a fair chance.
