The wife and I are planning a little weekend getaway in New Orleans for our anniversary in a couple of weeks. Last year we went to Doris Metropolitan and had an absolutely amazing meal. We loved our steaks (we're steak people), but I think the sweetbreads stole the show of the entire dinner. We enjoyed the creative dishes and presentations they offer there. We could always go back, but I've heard from some people that the service there has been lacking a little since COVID. Others have suggested Dickie Brennan's and GW Fins as alternatives.

Just coming here to look for some suggestions. We aren't rich by any means, but we use this as our one meal a year where we spare no expense. Looking for a great overall experience.

Thanks

Friend,

The best overall anniversary dinner location in the Metro is Impastato’s . You will get a five course meal for under $50. The service and food have actually gotten better since Covid, which is quite unusual in town. It remains the best Italian restaurant in America. Should anyone recommend Clancy’s be aware that its claim to fame is fried soft shell crab and sweat bread. While Impastato’s does not serve sweet breads, its soft shell crab is superior to that served at Clancy’s.

I will disagree with my dear friend, Paul Allen. Ever since the changes at Gautreau’s I haven’t enjoyed it. I would not recommend it. Most of the time Mr. Allen’s recommendations I support, though.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

If you even consider Impastato’s, you might as well goto. Fausto's

Clancy’s is great. My husband and I went last year for our anniversary - so I’m not sure how they are doing now. Parking can be a pain. But the food is spectacular. It was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time (I don’t live in NOLA anymore).

Impasto's is horrible. Overrated. Thought the food was terrible. Crazy water sauce tasted like nothing.

We went to G.W. Fins a few weeks ago and it was excellent. It is in my top 5 restaurants in New Orleans. But you go there for seafood. If you want steak, go elsewhere. Dickie Brennan's is very good, but I like Desi Vega's. Go to Desi's if you don't want to go back to Doris.

Yes, of course. What multi-year bride would not be thrilled with the objective of bargain priced food on an anniversary night? Romance will undoubtedly fill the air with such value informed food selection. He can just remind her that the evening’s dining selection is priced a bit higher than Golden Corral, but who really needs more than 5 courses anyway?

And if she’s not completely thrilled with the experience , why not drop the panty-dropping line, “But it has gotten better since Covid.”

What could possibly go wrong?
