Todd Harris and Hampton aren't effective. They don't QB the defense, constantly out of position, never help the CB's out on deep shots, and aren't the playmakers we're used to having.
Time to give Toles a shot?

Didn't Hampton get benched for lewis or am I just making that up?

Hell put Lee back there. Anyone is better than Harris and Hampton

You don’t think if the coaches thought someone would do better they would put them in? Do y’all just think the coaches play players knowing that someone else would do a better job?

I always said this until DJ Welter/Beckwith. Coaches can play the wrong players sometimes. It's not the craziest thing in the world.

Surely someone is better than Clark at linebacker. Anyone can wave at runners as they go by. Delpit started as a freshman at safety and did fine. Ricks and Ojulari look great. Maybe there are other freshmen who could contribute.

Got a ring out of it. It would be a nice story if he started this year and played well after waiting all this time.

lol naw we don't even have a stud safety this year and he can't touch the field

I wish we would see Lee somewhere on the defense. Wish he could get some reps at saftey or LB

O said himself that you don’t know what a player can do until you put him in a game.
I’d like to see Toles and Sampah/White put in a game. Maybe they’re ready, maybe not, but why not try and see?
Hell, Finley balled out at the most critical position on the field.
This is the best year to test young players. We aren’t contending, so why not?

The reason why it happens, to every coach, at some point (some more often than others), is because every coach bases personnel decisions first and foremost (I did not say "only") on performance in practice.
Some players do great in practice, and then do not in games. Often this is because the opponent has identified and weakness and is attacking it. Sometimes because some players are just that way.
I'd say I've seen just as many that sucked in practice but are stellar in games. So it does work both ways.
But in both directions, the practice performance is the most frequent and common "data" that a coach has to work with. So it usually becomes the determining factor.
It has nothing to do with complacency or any other factor on the coaches part. It sometimes does come down to a coach not willing to make a mistake however. But the only way it gets corrected, in either direction, is to see the players in enough games to create the "data set" to go against the practice observations. That's why you see this most often with "young teams".

I had bigh hopes for Hampton after he came in for Delpit last season and seemed to steady the back end of the D. He’s probably just struggling with the scheme change, because he showed talent last year.

Finally someone with sense. If Toles, Lewis or anyone else were better they'd be in the field. They aren't better at this point. Same with LB it appears. They are putting the best guys they see in practice on the field and the just aren't playing well. Doesn't hurt to try the backups of course but if they were the better options don't you think they'd be playing?
