The US Supreme Court is leaving in place for now a Pennsylvania state Supreme Court decision that allowed the counting of ballots received up to three days after the election, even if there is no legible postmark.

The justices on Wednesday denied a request from Pennsylvania Republicans to review the decision on an accelerated basis.

The court later on Wednesday allowed the counting of ballots in North Carolina received up to nine days after the election as long as the ballots are postmarked by Election Day.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett did not participate in the consideration of either motion.

The court's public information officer said that Barrett did not participate because of the need for a "prompt resolution" and because she had not had the time to fully review the filings. Democrats have been pressing the new justice to recuse herself from cases involving the election.

I believe it’s the 12th for NC.

And yes, Roberts again sided with the left wing of the SCOTUS.

Gorsuch wrote an excoriating dissent that included Alito and Thomas.

Nothing to worry about. (Gulp)

People say trump is suppressing the vote. How does it take till the 12th to cast a vote. I pray NC won’t matter but I know it will.

It will be okay - at least in NC.

And I have a feeling SCOTUS would weigh in if Trump has a lead on election night and the Dems are trying to count late ballots into Wednesday and Thursday. The GOP will have attorneys in the rooms at all times.

Ah, so illegality is upheld as long "we're in a hurry" and don't have time to look at it right now? First act as SC Justice is kind of shameful, to be honest. Do your fricking job.

The deadline for receiving a mail-in or absentee ballot was 10/27 for both PA and NC. So election officials already know the exact number of outstanding ballots in both states.

Disappointing that we may not know the results in either of these states for a few days, but at least we won't see the Dems manufacturing new ballots once they know the election results as they stand on 11/3.

Honestly no reason to not wait and let all the votes be counted (assuming they were cast in time). A lot of those votes will be republican.
