PS5 - Unboxing

Well we’re 16 days out from the PS5 and 14 days from the Xbox Series X.
We have our first unboxing: PS5 unboxed
First off, this console is an absolute unit, but the matte finish looks great. I also like the little details like the micro symbols on the finish. The DualSense controller is getting great feedback and the adaptive triggering is incredible.
I can’t wait, the next two weeks are going to be so slow.

The glossy black looks great when the console is brand new but inevitably it gets scuffed to hell. Happened with my VCR style XB1 since I would bring it with me on road trips but it is a nice looking console.

I could see that happening, but I’m not that worried about it. I don’t travel with my console, and it mostly stays in my entertainment center. I’m definitely gonna have to lay it sideways, so that should help.

They really fricked up telling people there would more preorders, and then not releasing anymore. The only places that have had them have been in bundle options.
I'm just lucky I got one from Wal-Mart. Most big box retailers are also staying away from In-Store releases because of the pandemic.
It may be a while before you can secure one post launch.

That thing is huge. Will it be wobbly if you lay it down flat?

No, it has a mount that attaches to the side as well so you can lay it sideways.

Yes, there is a special stand that comes with the unit to make sure it can lay on it's side without wobbling. Standing up it is going to be a tough squeeze into most entertainment centers considering how large it is but it will look good.

It comes with legs so you can use it as a coffee table when you lay it on its side.

Still not a fan of the design.
Too big, don't like that you gotta have a stand to lay it sideways (consoles look better sideways IMO) and obviously not a fan of the white fins. The fins are a neat idea, just don't like white being the default for it and the controllers.
I guess it's a moot point as a PS5 slim is an inevitability at some point, considering every single PS generation has gotten smaller revisions, sometimes multiple ones.

If the fin color is your main gripe then at least they easily pop off so you can customize it yourself or there are apparently going to be a lot game specific themed ones and what not.

Yes the fins being detachable is a great idea, there's gonna be a huge market for custom fins, both official and unofficial. I'll probably get some standard black ones.
But regardless I think I would have preferred a more conventional design. I'll probably have to get one as is though, as it'll be at least a few years before they introduce any major revisions I'm sure.
