Campaign finance reports were due today for mayor-prez candidates. Below are the tallies for money raised/spent/left on hand from 9/25 to 10/14:

SWB: 62k/213k/203k
Carter: 57k/95k/161k
Watson: 10k/7k/16k
Piazza: 10k/40k/$667

Take-away: SWB and Carter are raising about the same amount and are not far off in terms of reserves for a runoff. SWB is saturating the market with ads, but she is reaching the point of diminishing returns.

Do we think Watson can tally more votes than Carter and get into the runoff?

what is the deal with Watson?

Kinda figured he'd be able to pull more money.

Carter has "old" baton rouge money behind him. Hopefully that shifts to Watson if he gets past the primary.

That’s the problem.

Carter is coasting in name recognition and fundraising despite having a subpar chance of beating Broome.

Watson has money trouble but he can take it to her given how they intentionally booted multiple projects solely because Watson would have gotten credit.

If you want to save the city/parish, you need to vote for Watson.

Probably a lot of donors are turned off from him spending a good chuck of his campaign funds on restaurants, bars, and Uber.

From the man himself:

quote:

Watson says his documented expenditures reflect not only his commitment to transparency but his style of campaigning in the age of COVID-19, which is to meet with individuals or small groups over coffee, lunch or a beer.

“In the age of COVID-19, where you can’t have a fundraiser in a large room and can’t go to the ball diamond to shake everyone’s hand, I’m going out and meeting people in restaurants and coffee shops,” he says. “But I’m not going to walk into someone’s establishment and start politicking without purchasing something, and I usually take campaign volunteers with me. So I’m rewarding my volunteers and spending money in local businesses that have been hit hard by the pandemic.”

I’d doubt that. He spent twice as much money on restaurants and bars than he did on radio ads. Donors are not going to like that kind of mismanagement.

Looking at buying a new house, but looking at the shite show that is EBR has eliminated many good choices. Not going to deal with that crap. Why would you?

I voted Piazza; guy seems like he could actually make BR more business friendly.

His excuse doesn’t jive. Going to bars and restaurants (especially when many were closed due to Covid) to campaign is a terrible way to campaign, but a great way to write off bar tabs.

Broome is going to be re-elected. Might not even be a runoff.

I would agree, except for any vote not for Broome is not a wasted vote. Keep her from 50%.

I will be voting for Watson, in hopes that he can beat Carter and get into a runoff with Broome.

He did, but he didn't pay the bank back and they just put a collection on him

I'm undecided between Carter and Watson. Do you just disagree with the avenues he's campaigning or are you just insinuating the guy is just getting drunk on donor money?
