What am I doing besides just countering the false assertion that Matt Watson has about this mailer and Piazza’s commercial have about him. I haven’t lied, I’ve provided facts, and never called anyone a name.

What have I done that is is objectionable?

Boat really having a hard time admitting the mailer had no lies in it.

A regular Daniel Webster. Thanks for admitting the mailer has no lies in it, like how Matt has not always been a Democrat and not from Baton Rouge.

I think Matt is a great guy and has been a great councilman. I just think his actions cause some concern and that he is not the best man for the job.

Brilliant debate. Anyway, so where were the lies in the mailer?

Did the mailer include any lies, though?

So Watson supports local bars and restaurants and, like a responsible adult, uses Uber when he partakes.

Yeah, but shouldn't he use his own money from his "consulting" job and not mooch off of campaign supporters?

Matt Watson Mailer (front)

Here's the front side of the mailer. One of Piazza's consultants posted a commercial that attacks Watson and Carter.
Matt Watson Mailer

Looks like some third party has started hitting Watson for his "campaign" spending. Saw this on FB from a Piazza supporter.

Do you just disagree with the avenues he's campaigning or are you just insinuating the guy is just getting drunk on donor money?

I think it's both really. Sure, if going to a bunch of restaurants and bars was effective, then go ahead. But, his campaign finance reports for the past few years show that he uses his campaign funds to pay those bills. And, when you look at the staggering amount he spent at numerous bars and restaurants on individual days (as well as Uber rides), it doesn't look legit.

I don't think it's an effective use of limited resources, if we assume that he's not using it as a slush fund and is just going to bars and restaurants and campaign. He's spent over $9k on restaurants and bars for this election, but appears to have only spent just over $500 on radio. 9k on radio and TV would really have been a better use of that money.

His excuse doesn’t jive. Going to bars and restaurants (especially when many were closed due to Covid) to campaign is a terrible way to campaign, but a great way to write off bar tabs.

Carter has "old" baton rouge money behind him. Hopefully that shifts to Watson if he gets past the primary.

I’d doubt that. He spent twice as much money on restaurants and bars than he did on radio ads. Donors are not going to like that kind of mismanagement.

what is the deal with Watson? Kinda figured he'd be able to pull more money.

Probably a lot of donors are turned off from him spending a good chuck of his campaign funds on restaurants, bars, and Uber.

EBR Mayor Campaign Finance Update

Posted by TruePrep on 10/26/20 at 7:41 pm
Campaign finance reports were due today for mayor-prez candidates. Below are the tallies for money raised/spent/left on hand from 9/25 to 10/14:

SWB: 62k/213k/203k
Carter: 57k/95k/161k
Watson: 10k/7k/16k
Piazza: 10k/40k/$667

Take-away: SWB and Carter are raising about the same amount and are not far off in terms of reserves for a runoff. SWB is saturating the market with ads, but she is reaching the point of diminishing returns.

Steve Carter has been in BR politics his entire adult life

Steve was first elected to office in 2007. He's 76 now, so he has only been office since he was 63. That's not his entire adult life.

We have politicians like him to thank for Mayor Sharon Weston Broome.

How? Why? How does a reliable conservative Republican create SWB?

I haven't seen Carter get sued by a bank for defaulting on an 8k loan like Watson did. Is that who we need to manage the city-parish budget?

He's a closest Democrat. He is in favor of raising taxes.

Nonsense. He is a solid conservative. Voted pro-life in the legislature, he's against defunding the police. Where have you seen that?

Also, Carter doesn't use his campaign account to pay his restaurant and bar tabs like Watson does.

Watson by far best candidate period.

Then why is he using his campaign account to pay for his restaurant and bar tabs all over town at places like Stabs, LA Daiquiris, Zippy's, and the like?

divisive

I think we can all agree that it was divisive regardless of whether someone supported it or not. I don't think BR and SG were holding hands and singing kumbayam, haha.

Steve voted for every bill in the legislature that was for St. George. And, here's his statement on SG from his website. LINK Heck, Bodi White supports him, and we all know Bodi supports SG. LINK
Carter is not anti-St George. He’s voted for every pro St George bill while in the legislature. What proof do you have?
