quote:maybe if he can make the throws. That one fake and run last night fooled everyone in the stadium and on TV. He is dynamic running.
Max Johnson is the closest thing to Fields we have on the roster.

I hate to tell you, but TJ is NOT a run threat. He isn’t Cam Newton. He does not have the burst or top-end speed. He is a big-bodied, durable pocket passer who happens to be able to put his shoulder down for a few extra yards.
Agree. He doesn’t have to be Cam. Just druable enough to be a threat by pulling a few times a game.
The more players the defense has to defend or worry about, advantage offense ie 5 versus 4.
Johnson has more upside.

Very good post. Agree 100%. It was a team effort last night, which is wonderful. TJ benefitted greatly from that. Im very excited about our future QBs, bothTJ and Max,but lets not throw out the current starter who won the job in the off season.

As far as it being night and day, I couldn’t agree more. Brennan is the clear winner. Zero run game help, and put up more points in two of three games than what TJ did WITH a run game.
People are getting bright-eyed and bushy-tailed over the 52-spot we dropped, but forgetting that we had a pick-six and a kick return TD.
Brennan led us to 34 against MSU, also with a pick 6 and two turnovers on the opponent’s side of the field. There’s 17 points out of the 34. Why didn’t you mention that?
Mizzou also had 3 turnovers—a couple on their side of the field. Vandy threw 2 picks. Why not bring that up?
See what I mean by negative connotation? Maybe you didn’t mean it, but you took credit from Finley who led the team to a big win in his first start as a freshman by claiming he wasn’t as impressive as a redshirt junior with plenty of playing time and a 1-2 record. I hope they both continue to play well, and I hope the best player leads us.

How is LSU not being able to run the ball on Brennan? There is zero excuse why we shouldn’t be able to line up against Missouri and gain 1 yard up the middle on a run play.

I love how TJ played, but he grew into the game. Ensminger called an amazing game and got him settled in and allowed his nerves to subside before asking more of him.
I believe that MB could have had a similar performance last night with this play calling and execution. This is what I fear when Brennan comes back. Ensminger is going to go all pass happy again and go 4 of 5 plays passing. Everything worked well last night because we were just about never behind the chains.

that the offense ISNT the problem.
We had great offense last year, with Burrow, Brady and Ensminger.
We had a great offense this year with Brennan, Linehan and Ensminger.
We had a great offense this year with Finley, Linehan and Ensminger.
There is a common denominator in here somewhere. I’ll find it eventually, and then I’ll let y’all know.

Stats are great, but the guy is not a leader on this football team. If I’m coaching staff, I move forward with the player that the team responds to.
Pretty emotional analysis here

Agree. It may be "an intangible" - but it has seemingly magical, and enormous, effects through its presence. Or absence.

Especially watch the offensive line play, the lack of a running game, and the drops by receivers.
Then you also have to consider his poor throws as well. Of which he has had many. And the bad sacks. I don't remember one poor throw from Finley other than the interception which was a misread with the wide receiver. Otherwise his throws were exactly where they needed to be. Most the WR didn't have to break stride. He had zero bad sacks. He got rid of the ball quickly and never once held it too long. There were sackable moments, but he either threw the ball quickly from the pocket or brought time by rolling out and completed passes on the run.
I agree Brennan should start when he is fully healed. Then judge his play. If it is stellar, he keeps his job. If he struggles then he leaves the door open.
If Finley is better, he becomes starter. There is no squatters right in college football.

I'd like to see battles for PT weekly on Defense.

quote:you went back to 1982 Pitt? No mention of Payton Manning? Jesus. I think it is possible the game has changed a little since 1983 and even 1998. Moving in the pocket is important and Brennan has shown improvement on getting rid of the ball versus the sacks the first couple games. Backers running 4.5 is common today versus 1998 even. Look at the heighth of the dbs today versus back in those days. Safeties speed. It has evolved because of the size and speed of these players today. The game is different for sure.
Well you just thre out Dan marino
If Max Johnson has arm strength and accuracy with his speed, he will be deadly.

That would still lay on the coaches shoulders for not bringing in the behemoth TJ Finley on the goal line offense.
Finley barely got in himself.
I am so glad TJ did an outstanding job. He looked good running the offense and most passes were on target even on the move.
Myles is in the record books already. Well deserved chance to go back out and lead this team.

That is why you are on a forum typing out what you would do and not on a sideline some where making it happen clown
