How? They are attached with wire.

Have your husband give you a quick tutorial on operating wire. Maybe you could go 2 for 1 and get him to show you aboot zip ties as well.

I hope you are just missing the point that the rental company put an unnecessary pita on you, the customer.

I have one keyring with aboot 6 keys on it. I have never had to sit down and have a good cry aboot it. If they were giant keys, I may just put them in the pockets of my cargo shorts and STFU.

Because chances are you're not returning it to the same location. Why should they hold on to a set of keys to a car they'll never see again?

This is straight up the answer

Its pretty obvious if you ask me

What's an agency going to do with a key when you drop the car off at another location?

And there it is. Guess they just don’t trust people not to lose one

As someone who used to be a manager at a rental car company, it's because there is no way to keep track of the second key if they are not together. Imagine having ten thousand spare keys to keep track of, just easier to keep them together.

They want to keep both sets of keys together because they sell the cars after a year or two

This. Have you ever bought a used car that had both keys?

Their way of doing business hasn’t changed with the times. This was fine when keys were actual keys. And then the small remote fobs but now the ribs replaced keys and are giant.

I had a set a couple of weeks ago that we’re so huge, two remote fob keys and a big plastic tag all on a stiff wire loop, that I couldn’t put them in a suit pants pocket without it looking like I had a weird boner. Had to put them in my briefcase or just carry them in my hand and set them down. It was annoying as hell.

This was on a two day out of state business trip. I flew there and didn’t have a wire cutter handy to cut these things loose either.

Stop at a Home Depot or Lowes, plenty of wire cutters on the shelf. Snip and go.

Do they charge you if you have snipped the wire?

They do it in case you exchange/check in at another location.

This matters how?

Because they sell the car after several thousand miles.

Exactly then zip tie them together before you drop the car off.
