Why do people think pessimism means someone doesn't WANT to win?

I see this in many places - in this message board and many others - if someone says, "I don't think Trump will win," people then pounce on him as if he said "I don't WANT Trump to win" - which is a totally different thing. People treat "I don't think Trump will win" as if it means the person isn't supporting Trump.
Do you take this same approach to sports as well - that if someone says, "I doubt LSU will win this upcoming game" that it means they aren't rooting for LSU? (or Bama, or Clemson, or Florida, or whatever your team is)

If you don’t have the heart for the battle, speak up and coins will be provided for your passage home. We would not die in that man’s presence, who fears his fellowship, to die with us.”

In many, many cases, those types of comments are clearly identifiable as trolling efforts. So I assume a great many people then view any and all such cases as trolling. Which is completely understandable in my view.

Because we have a lot of retards who might believe the person saying "I don't think Trump will win" and not vote.
But anyone who believes these polls after 2016 is a dumb son of a bitch.

By this logic, every single Trump supporter ought to predict victory all the time. And every football fan ought to predict an undefeated season and championship each year.

This is a huge conservative political forum that brings in new posters from all across the interwebs. Moreso than ever now during presidential election season.
I was looking yesterday for the stats... does anyone else remember the stickied Chicken thread the day after the 2016 election? I think this site had something like tens of millions of page views that night. And the TD poli board will eclipse that # again this year. You're welcome Chicken
ETA: almost found what I was looking for

Was posting on a liberal KU board for the past several years. Have finally had enough of them this cycle and found this place.
Rock Chalk!

If you think Trump will not win it just shows that you are not very intelligent.

The main issue is people are too eat up with politics in general. Another reason why the internet and SM has ruined society.
I have 2 colleagues from Greece, a country in a perpetual recession and prone to populism. They say the US is turning into Greece. Unemployed, sitting at cafes and bars, debating politics and not doing anything productive with their lives. So and so politician is going to fix everything by promising a bunch of nonsense they have no intention of ever following through on.

Who in God’s name actually thinks like this?
If anything, being this far down in the polls should make more people vote then if it were a sure fire victory.

It doesn't, though. People generally turn out to vote in a close, narrow race, but if they perceive that one candidate is far, far ahead, they can become complacent or defeatist and not show up.
