Exactly. Look at the complaining last year when Brady left.
The fanbase wants some 30 year old hotshot that will stick around for 5 years as OC. It ain’t happening.

What a freaking cop out... let’s hire people no one wants so we get continuity.
Get out of here with that bs

They have been there for years because they are good

I rather hire a young up and coming coach
Posted on 10/11/20 at 3:45 pm to Tiger30
should have backed up the bank truck to Brady then and found someone who has commanded a defense in the last 5 years against the spread

Doesn’t look like bo will last too long

Maybe he should look at coordinators who can coach and scheme.

Problem is that he got the job by saying he would bring in the best coordinators.
The best coordinators don’t stick around long because they either become head coaches or go the the NFL.
Average coordinators tend to stick around for long times.
If O really bases his job in hiring the best coordinators, then he has to be prepared to replace them very often. And if he can’t what good is he.

Not every “best” coordinator is a young guy looking to get a head coach job. I don’t blame him for trying to find some stability so we don’t worry about hiring new coordinators every offseason and renegotiating contracts during the season.

I mean one of the main reasons he got the job was he convinced alleva he could hire kiffin.

I think that's what he was looking for with Linehan and Pelini, didn't want younger guys who'd leave after a couple years. Linehan's role isn't very important but wanting a washed up meathead like Bo was inexplicable. Nebraska fans hate him for good reason. His defenses sucked after a couple good seasons to start out with

Like it or not but you have to hire the guy you expect to lose in 2-3 years. If your not hiring the next Brady or Aranda your hiring the next Cameron, Chavis, or Pelini.

So he opts to hire retreads no one else wants. Bold strategy Cotton, how’s that working out right now?

True but many are. And even older ones will be tempted by HC offers.

Ok I get that. But find someone qualified not an overrated retread hired hoping fans will not look at anything other than the fact that he was here when we won a championship....over a decade ago.

This is a winner right here.
One way or another your coordinator is gonna leave. Either a promotion or firing. Venables don’t grow on trees.
And aranda was at LSU long enough to make that experience doable again.

Dave Aranda was here 4yrs. should have had either Raymond or Busch being understudies and promoted within.

Stability is nice. Good coordinators are better
And rule #1 in college ball- the better the coach (or player) is the shorter amount of time you will have them.
The better you are, the higher your turnover. It's not impossible to get what Clemson has on the sideline, but it is a rarity. And the simple fact is that stability you reference lies in one coordinator who happens to be just fine where he is- Venables. From GAs through OC they have regular turnover just like everybody else.
No one has turnover at coaches like Saban. He knows rule #1. Hence, as much as people want to make fun of it, "the process" exists. It works. The trick is to transition as seamlessly as possible, not to try and prevent the unpreventable.
But you are right. He does want it. Carroll had it at USC for the most part. Even when guys got demoted (Cregg) they staid on unless the NFL came calling. Holtz had it at ND. But like everything else in college, stability is only temporary and is a mirage if you look at 3 years or more in any one block.
