I broke down and bought a cheap crossbow from Dick's b/c it was on sale and I'm a horrible bow hunter. Set up came with a few arrows and I bought 5 more.

My question is there really any difference between rage bow and rage cross bow broad heads?

takes more energy for a crossbow head to open so that it does not open mid flight

Fixed heads are the same. Mechanicals are different as mylsuhat said, once you get over a certain fps rating.

I concur with what has already been said. Jus to let you know the projectile for Xbow is called a "bolt"; not and arrow.

Now that the difference between them has been covered, I’ll recommend the grim reaper 2 blade crossbow head. It’s what I shoot out of my Ravin. It’s good above 450fps. I don’t like rages.

I took one of my rage hybrids I use for my bow, and put it on a bolt. My boy smoked a deer at 50 yards that ran about 20 yards. If it opened early it sure didn't effect the flight.

I imagine if you have a dental rubber band on them they would stay closed?

I’ll prob spring for the $30 and get legit x bow broadheads.

Thanks for the info gents!

rage xbow heads have a different collar to prevent the blades from opening in flight. the rage hypodermic xbow head is the best bh i’ve ever used.

If you search the web some people say the red collar Rage crossbow broad heads don't allow the blades to open. I purchased the compound bow black collar rage for my two sons crossbows and they work great. They do not open up in flight and do open at impact. My crossbows shot around 350fps for refrence. Got my rage from Dicks on line dirt cheap and remember there is a $15.00 rebate from rage right now,it expires Oct 31st.

I'm not going with "I imagine" when shooting a deer with a bow...

Don't get too deep in the weeds. You'll find people left and right blaming broadheads. If you see those people, ignore those people. Broadheads just do what you put them in a position to do.

True. I shoot both compound and a longbow; both will kill deer even with old fashioned two blade fixed broadheads.

Over the course of history countless deer and other game have been taken without modern broadheads. Shot placement is the key. We’ve all made great shots and some not so great shots. It isn’t the broadhead’s fault.

Does a Rage Traypan open a bigger wound channel than a fixed blade Stinger? All things being even, no doubt. But good shot placement will get it done.

The proof is in so many people using different broadheads and killing deer with them. Even the ones that others say are junk.

My wife uses an xgun that shoots 400 fps with 125 grain fixed broadheads. She's dead on out to 70 yards and has never not had great performance from the broadheads.

Wasp Drones is what she is shooting and I am sure there are better but they put large game down. No question.

never had an issue with the red collar rage hypodermics (8 deer). been using them since they hit the market. they have to be rigged correctly. two does this year and neither one went 30 yds.

Crossbow broadheads have a higher opening tolerance due to the more extreme force during launch and flight, dental rubberband make up the difference. Dont forget to upgrade the nocks to an illuminating one. If you ground hunt you'll experience a huge difference in passthrough shoots.
