The GF and I (mid-20s) have a trip planned to Seattle for the week before Christmas (4 full days.)

Looking for somewhat specific recommendations on outdoor activities (hikes, etc.) that will be open/enjoyable that time of year. Not looking to ski.

Planning on renting a car to visit Leavenworth already, so not opposed to having to drive other places as well.

Any other Seattle wintertime recs are welcomed as well. TIA.

I havent experienced winter around here yet but theres a lot to do. I've avoided going downtown, suburbs and outskirts are fine to do things. Hiking wise, how long of a hike are you looking for? Full day, half day, moderate/difficult?

Plenty of wineries, breweries, and distilleries around Woodinville. If i find some other things over next few months i'll update

Winter weather is usually pretty mild in Seattle but changes big time as you head east. Higher elevation hikes are going to be a no go due to snow. Look into Cougar Mountain and Rattlesnake Ridge. Both are normally super crowded due to being close to Seattle but should be fine in December... Especially on a week day. You'll need AWD and maybe chains to get over either the I90 or HWY 2 mountain pass to Leavenworth. Might look into snowshoeing somewhere since you don't ski. Maybe Snoqualmie. I ski Alpental quite a bit and always see snowshoers walking to some trails at the base. Also plenty to do in Seattle. Check out Fremont and Ballard. Breweries are all open now but most bars are not. Assuming that will change by December. Stay away from Capitol Hill and you won't see a protestor. Seattle is awesome regardless of what other posters say. Moved here six years ago from Dallas. Was in BR before that. Normal dude, not Antifa.

Not the best time for outdoor stuff. December is typically dark and rainy (look up sunrise and sunset times).

How far from Seattle will you be traveling?
In Leavenworth, Check out there reindeer farm, the kids and wife loved it. There’s some good hiking near Leavenworth but I’ve only been in summer. Colchuck Lake is a gorgeous hike but strenuous.

Olympic National Park is awesome

Not that anyone cares, but here's how the itinerary is looking. Feel free to critique.

Arrival Day:
-Land at Sea-Tac late afternoon.
-Have the Omakase dinner at Sushi Kashiba.

Day 1:
-Be a stereotypical Seattle tourist. Pike Place, Space Needle, Chihuly Garden, Underground Tour, etc.
-Ramen cooking class to finish off the night.

Day 2:
-Drive out to and hike Oyster Dome via Chuckanut Drive.
-Bar hop in Ballard neighborhood.

Day 3:
-Lazy morning, maybe walk around Pike Place one last time before driving to Leavenworth.
-Stop in Plain to ride snowmobiles around Lake Wenatchee.
-Walk around Leavenworth and hit as many wine tasting places as possible.

Day 4:
-Horse Sleigh Ride
-Nordic Skiing

Leaving Day:
-Leave Leavenworth and drive to Sea-Tac for 12:30pm flight home.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out with this

Looking like Governor Inslee is doing his best to ruin this trip

He just came out with some pretty stiff Covid restrictions.

That sounds like a terrible idea. I have a daughter in Seattle, and late December is a BAD time to visit. It will be rainy and in the low 40’s. Yuk! Not good hiking weather, either.

Contrary to what folks are telling you, Seattle is a wonderful place to visit in the summer. The bums downtown are a drag, but stay by the waterfront and you’ll avoid most of that. And there’s great hiking all around Seattle.

I went to Seattle a few weeks ago, and man, there are some loons there. I’d say about 95% of folks walking outside had masks on, and they went out of their way to signal to me that I was a deplorable for not wearing a mask. You know, party of science and stuff.
