Mod's, this is slightly off-topic so if I need to move to Home/Garden board, not a problem.

I am getting ready to build a long awaited patio on my house. I'm posting here because I see a lot of the FBD posts and a lot of you are on your own patios having a drink and watching sports. That's why i'm building my patio. It's going to be screened in and look something like this this. It's going to be 12'x14' and i'll have a TV out there, of course. Do you have any other suggestions as this is the first time i've built a patio (i'm not BUILDING it...i'm just paying for it). Looking for some good heater's if anyone has any recommendations. Any good furniture recommendations? Probably going to get a small couch and then swivel chairs. Will have some lights out there, not sure if i'm going to do Philips Hue or not. Want the space to be relaxing, my wife will probably not hang out on it so not worried about making it HGTV ready.

Again, sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong thread.

Give me a little time and I’ll post some pics of ours. It is about 90% complete at this point. But similar design to your pic you posted.

Put dimmable can lights and a fan in there. We just screened in our porch and we are about 90 % done too. hope to post pics before long.

Install as many ceiling fans as you can. My screen porch faces west, so I get the afternoon sun. The screen hols a lot of heat. I also have pull down shades to block the sun.

If you enjoy grilling, i'd go away from screened in, unless you are putting in a good vent.

My uncle has a little screened in porch. He has 4 porch swings that hang from the ceiling but they made only about 30" wide, they made for one person. He also has a sofa and some little fake fireplace that work really nice. I thought he paid a pretty penny for them, turns out he bought them at Big Lots. He has small bar out there as well.

Don’t have any more recent pics from the inside on my phone but here’s some in progress pics.

We bought this set of furniture. LINK

Came with the couch, nesting tables, and a pair of swivel rockers.

We also have two fans we got at Home Depot that oscillate.

Still deciding on where to mount the TV or if we want to have it on a small table. I'd like to be able to move it around instead of mounting it, especially with how our furniture is set up.

Might I suggest a slide off the front by the screen door? Would be fun as shite for parents and kids alike, and that way no drunks fall down your stairs and sue you.

As for OP, I love the vibe of string lights on a screen porch or patio.

We thought about a slide, but we're planning on doing some landscaping underneath, and adding a swing under the landing. So the slide wouldn't work. I'm probably the only one getting drunk out there and I'll make sure to only stumble up stairs, not down. Plus I don't want to encourage kids running up the stairs and then sliding back down 1,000 times a day. The screen door locks from the inside so I can keep the young'uns out in the yard.

Love my screen porch. Yes to ceiling fans, yes to dimmable can lights. Make sure your floor boards are tight enough not to admit mosquitos from underneath. I added a crank-down sunbrella fabric shade on the west side of my porch—it makes a huge difference in temp/comfort if you use the porch as the sun sets. I also have fold up beer garden benches and tables that are long and narrow—I can put them up for a party, then fold them up and away and put out the lounge furniture.

There's a builder here in BR whose homes come standard with central A/C and heat on the screen in patio. The screens surrounding the patios are remote controlled if you want the whole thing open too.

Pretty awesome.

The way to prevent that is to put down screening over the floor joists before you put the floor boards down.

You can also tack some to the bottom of the joists after you paint, which is what we're going to do. Didn't want the screens ending up stained.

We are definitely putting a ceiling fan in, not sure about the dimmable lights. My thoughts were the ceiling fan would have lights on it that I could use and then we're planning on doing some of the edison bulbs hanging around the porch. In the ceiling fan, i was going to put the Philips Hue lights to be able to change the colors.

This patio is going to face east, so in the mornings it could be pretty warm but afternoons it will be shady. I think I have room for maybe 2 max ceiling fans. I may be able to do some of the smaller corner fans (like this)

Have you already received the furniture? If so, is the couch comfy enough to take a nap on it?

Yeah the couch is nice. I’m not much of a nap guy but I’ve caught my kids snoozing out there. Took a little to put it all together but it’s a solid set. Comfy pillows that are strapped in to the frame when you finish.
