This ammo shortage is unreal

I'm pretty well stocked but you can never have enough

I have a good amount but can’t find the good 9mm hollow points, have plenty of FMJ

I'm having trouble finding several rifle cartridges, 7-08 (Hornady 139SST) and 300 WBY (Accubond) mag is almost nonexistent. I had to swap to Barnes TTSX for the 300 just to have something to shoot for elk.

And that is why there is a shortage

Going to have to be stingy with target practice for my son. Only have two boxes of his 6.5 creedmoor hunting ammo and can’t find any locally. shite is getting out of hand. I can understand hoarding for the common semi autos but premium hunting ammo is scarce as well.

Some day soon the gun control zealots will catch on and their focus will move from the guns to the ammo. This is what it will look like.

Buds had Hornady ELD-X a couple days ago. 5 box limit.

I suspect this is because every machine they have right now is cranking out nothing but their government contracts, 9mm, .45ACP, and .223.
I want some .300BLK subs and the ammo manufacturer that I like says he can't even get the 220 gr bullets he uses because the bullet manufacturers have turned the variety they make way down and are just pumping out the most popular projectiles for the most popular calibers. It's not even a caliber thing. Try to find 147gr FMJ 9mm Luger. I've been able to find nothing to replace my 9mm subs.
The bullet the .300BLK manufacturer uses in his supers is a standard .308 bullet, so he can find a few of those here and there, but the heavier 220 gr bullet isn't as widely used of a .308 round and no joy.

I think even next year, 9mm $20/box(range ammo) will be the new normal.

How much is enough?

It'll come back down eventually. I think you're right on it being 2022 before it really does.
I think 2021 is when we'll see the availability start returning before prices come back down. You've gotta have boxes readily available in retail inventory before prices can start coming down in response to lower sales numbers resulting in fewer orders from retailers, leading to manufacturers to drop wholesale prices to spur sales.
I wasn't in the gun game back in 2012 when this last happened, but it recovered from that. It'll recover from this. Probably.

That is the unanswerable question. I pray I never need a single bullet.

Now we have to wonder about his definition of "enough." I'm guessing it means "thousands".

I'm wondering if this is driven by massive government purchases like in some years past. Certainly the demand is up in the consumer market, but typically government contracts get filled first and they buy in bulk.

I usually try to keep about 500 rounds per weapon. I'm a little short on .45 but otherwise have plenty. The .22 ammo shortage years ago taught me to just buy some every few months whether I need it or not.

Do you have an Academy nearby? 6.5 creedmoor is on the shelf every Friday morning when I go.

Hell I just need a couple boxes to run through my new 9. Can't find it anywhere local.

Enough + another couple thousand
Main reason I built a 5.45 AR, I can walk into Academy and buy 100 rounds no problem right now
