I was going to do a brisket but want to wait until I’ve got more people to cook for. Temps will be mid 80s so gumbo (for me) is out. I’ve cooked a lot of pork lately so not feeling chops or loin.

My wife floated the idea of jambalaya but I prefer to grill.

What’s the FDB got?

smoked queso dip,

Good idea. That's always a good, easy dish to make.

Should have added no cheese dips. My pregnant wife who usually has queso as her go to dish and hates sweets is completely opposite when she gets knocked up.

Usually she comes back from the grocery store with a block of velveeta, breakfast sausage, cream cheese, and rotel. Today is was cookie dough, Halloween snack cakes, and a pack of Hershey white chocolate kisses.

What’s the difference in gumbo and the other hot dishes you mentioned?

I just think anything resembling soup as a cold weather dish.

I feel the way about jambalaya but for some reason am more open to that in warmer temps. Not sure why.

Any type of Eggrolls - I like to make shrimp or seafood eggrolls with several different dipping sauces (sweet & sour) and side dishes like fried rice, and orange chicken or general tao's chicken - it's good for a change of pace while we wait for the cold weather to get here

I know it's not grilling, but I do all my frying outside and my wok is placed in a ring on my pit

Anyone who eats gumbo in 75+ weather is suspect. That’s some cold weather food.

I could live with this for sure. The wife usually has a craving for Chinese food too.

Any good recipes? Outside of the occasional shrimp fried rice, I’m not very experienced in the oriental ways of cooking.

Congrats on the sex, and I've been there multiple times. Old standby's all of a sudden are repulsive to a pregnant woman. Mine didn't go as far as the pickles and ice cream cliché, but when she was pregnant with our first she craved cookies and milk every night. I got real good at keeping some cookie dough on hand and turning the oven to 375 after dinner. Just having a couple ready to go was key.

She didn't crave sweets so much with the second and third, but it was an obsession with crushed ice and iced coffees. She never even drank that much coffee before kids, but all of a sudden she wanted iced coffee, and got it decaf most of the time. She would also swing by a Chick-Fil-A and just order a glass of water with extra ice. She would pour the water out and crunch on the ice.

My wife developed an aversion to grilled meats when she was pregnant with our second kid. That kid is now 13 and she never had re-acquired an appetite for steaks, pork chops, chicken...really anything off the grill except hamburgers.

Anyway, my standard game day food is smoked wings and Conecuh sausage.

You can marinate chicken thighs in teriyaki and grill them. Those are a hit at my house. They would go great with egg rolls, fried rice, etc, or just by themselves.

Pulled Pork Bar

Smoke a giant butt and shred. Place on the table with options to make sandwiches with slaw and a bowl of tortilla chips with all the sides for pork nachos.

Sit back and enjoy the game.

This might be the most depressing thing I ever read on this board.

I don't know how to make small batches of wings so I'll hold off until I have more people over. Everyone over here is occupied with Laura cleanup so won't be the big crowd that we usually have.

I'm liking this grilling teriyaki chicken idea, with some fried rice, stir fry and making egg rolls. Just need to youtube how to use a wok....then buy a wok

Well, I must be suspect. I've eaten gumbo all year round ever since I was old enough to eat gumbo.

People will stand over hot grills and hot pots of boiling crawfish, crabs, shrimp in the heat, but eating gumbo inside in the AC is wrong...

So do you not eat any hot food inside your house ? I'm confused because the temp has to be right around 75
