You sure do like updating the board on grocery prices
Sounds like you shop a lot.

I like it when posters point out good prices, I have saved a lot of money following some of these tips.

I live in Mandeville and have been disappointed in our Rouses there. I shop at the Winn Dixie on 59 and find their produce/meat to be much fresher.
It sucks because I’d like to support a LA business but they have been wayyyy behind on quality.

Yeah, I'm guilty, and am not associated with Rouses in any way.
I'm retired, love to cook and the wife is still working since she is not old enough to retire yet. I cook something every day in some form or another with dinner meals being the bulk of it. We only do breakfast on weekends when she's off work.
I buy at Costco for a lot of the bulk items we use, along with their great selection of meat and fish that I buy from time to time.
Rouses is where I generally go for items that are priced good and not in bulk with a chance to spoil before using. I will buy some bulk items like chicken leg quarters and pork butts when on sale since I make my own sausages and have a big freezer.

The Rouses on the northshore vary greatly. The one on the East Approach is very nice; the one off 22 just ok; the one on 190 near Home Depot is a disaster, but the one closer to Covington is very nice.
I do not like Tyson chicken. Wish they carried Sanderson Farms.

Would be stocking up on chicken and ribs but we are having out kitchen remodeled on Monday so I need to eat what I have.
4-6 weeks of no kitchen is going to suck but it will be so worth it.

Keep your eye on the prize and it will be worth it in the end.
Time for breaking out the smoker and grill when the kitchen is torn up-------and eating off of paper plates and plastic utensils.

I'll add another recommendation for the best grocery shopping app in the world: Flipp. All of your local circulars digitized, searchable, etc right on your phone. It's incredibly convenient when you want a specific meat item and want to see who has it at the best price.

That'll be the plan for sure. Turning the dining room into a makeshift kitchen with a mini-fridge, sous vide, and microwave.

Good move since dining rooms have gone the way of formal parlors in most homes.

Yep. Rouses' meat is awful.

quote:Showing up as $0.19/lb for me. I've gotten them before and they're about as low quality as you can get. I like to smoke them and use the meat in dishes.

I'll probably grab a sack of leg quarters and the freshest looking pack of spare ribs I can find.
And if you buy a bag of Takis you get $1 off 2 avocados. lol.

My ad says leg quarters are $0.19 a pound in 10 pound bags. Limit 4 bags.
Excellent value, but they were $.29 a lb. at the Carrollton Ave. Store in Mid-City this morning.
Even at that price, they are a hell of a bargain and I got 2 bags. Once home I cut the tail pieces off the ends of the thigh and then separated the leg from the thigh to freeze in quart bags for later use.
The cut off pieces are now on the stove cooking down to make a chicken stock. I'll pick whatever meat I can get off those bones and give it to my neighbor to toss in his dogs food for a treat.

I went in this morning and got the fruits and veggie deals but they did not have the .99c ribs out.
I am wondering how they look.
