That and this, which is often referred to as "Thriller: a cruel picture".

Good lord.

It can't be more obvious.

Who would've ever seen this movie.

The more obscure, the better for Tarantino to lift stories. The only reason he probably didn't lift from 70's porn movies is that they were probably too mainstream.

But it makes sense for a guy who had no formal film training but just watched a ton of movies and a lot of them obscure movies. So he learned on the job but started out just borrowing techniques.

I am just impressed how he is the only white man in America that can get by with gratuitous use of the "N" word.

I think he always relied on that when it comes to plagiarizing. He figured, shite...I'm a film nerd...nobody has seen these movies except me and a few thousand people in Hong Kong.

He made the actors watch the movie on set between takes. He wasn't trying to hide anything.

yet here we are in 2020 discussing this because 99.99999% of people who saw this movie think he's a fricking creative genius and would never know about this.

he's a genius at sitting in his $30 million movie room in his basement watching obscure foreign films 24/7 to rip off.

He is good at ripping off movies. Not everyone could grab some obscure foreign film, tweak it, turn it into a blockbuster. If you do an internet search it isn't exactly a hidden secret about the connection between the two movies. It is what it is. I like a lot of Tarantino but no, he isn't some genius.

You’ll like the 1st one.

It’s campy and a bit cheesy, but it’s fun.

There is a shot-by-shot comparison of Tarantino's movies and certain shots that were just lifted completely and copied from other movies.

What movie was his source material for Reservoir Dogs? I want to see it.

Quote is extremely ironic, considering Kill Bill 2 ripped off an entire fricking book chapter for Bill's monologue about Superman/Clark Kent.

It's safe to assume literally every Tarantino stylistic quirk is a ripoff of something else, which IMO should have little to no bearing on the overall quality of the film's he makes.

Only been able to find an English dubbed version on DVD. I would much prefer subtitles.

It’s weird to me this thread was even started. He talked about all the stuff he pulled from in the behind the scenes stuff back when the movie came out.

I could go pull that dvd out of the closet and pull up the parts of him casting sonny Chiba and naming his character hattori hanzo because he used to watch a show called kage no gundan. Also talks about lady snowblood, the Kung fu flicks, even that he pulled the siren that plays in Beatrix’ head from a show called ironside

He's a guy who is passionate about films which we all can relate to which is why most people on this board like him.

I understand why he stole direction shots because he wasn't a director. I think he was so in love with some of these movies that he said...well, I'm new, don't really know what I'm doing and no film school...so I'll just copy shots that I think are cool.

He had the one thing in Hollywood that gets you in the door and your resume can be nothing and no technical experience but it's gold if they like it...a script.

Directors just don't get hired out of NYU or USC film school because hey, I'm a director now, I graduated! Nobody gives a shite.

John Singleton got to direct Boyz N' the Hood because it was his script and they loved it so much.

Same with Tarantino. So as a scriptwriter Tarantino is pretty good. As a Director, he's not original as we've seen and not a genius. He's like the rapper that samples music and background beats from another artists and puts his lyrics over it.

I think I'd go QT just because of the budget and updated visuals

Plus all that blood just made it fun

I'm actually a bigger fan of pt 2
