Not real sure there is much everyday benefit to these Amex cards.

My wife and so decided to open up Amex accounts again two months ago. We aren’t big spenders but we have a Amex Platinum and Amex Gold because we overall saw benefits to membership and rewards. At least we thought so.
Over past two months we have spent about $8,000 between the cards. The problem is I’m not seeing any value in these rewards points.
I have a Sapphire card that will give me 1:1 points for southwest. 8,000 points could get me a one way flight on Southwest. With Amex, I might get $30 in amazon credits.
The additional benefits seems to make keeping one Amex worth it but are there any other cards worth keeping for the rewards?
Sapphire seems like overall the best card to own for rewards. Any others worth owning?

I benefit from AMEX for travel benefits during actual travel. With not much of that happening I agree. Benefits are meh.

I used to use my USAA AMEX card all the time as it came with price protection and extended warranty benefits.
Price protection went away. And I am not sure about extended warranty and where that stands today.
Discover Card did the same thing. I used to monitor prices after 30 and 60 days and make a claim to get the difference back. It was substantial enough at times to be impactful.
Not anymore.
Are there any cards today that still offer these benefits?

Benefits are terrible. Travel doesnt help me any because of my airline status. Waste of money

so you signed up for cards that charge almost $800 total in annual fees without first determining if the benefits are worth it to you?
I personally dont find either of those cards worth it to me but Amex blue cash preferred is one of my most used cards (6% cashback at grocery stores where I buy $500 gift cards to max out the cashback each year)

We use the travel benefits regularly and the lounge access has been worth its weight in gold for me internationally. The everyday points purchases is what I am trying to discuss. What cards do you get for it.

Did your wife get the real gold card, or the fake one that comes with the Amex platinum? Is it a metal card, or is it plastic?

How?

Chase freedom is now becoming my favorite card. No Annual fee, 5% on travel booked at chase, 3% on restaurants and 1.5% everywhere else. The only reason I won’t cancel my CSR is because I get the 50% bonus when I transfer all my points to them for travel.

My wife and I use the Sam’s club MasterCard. 5% on travel and dining, 3% on gas, 1% everything else. All cash back. We get about 2k-2.5k back each year.

Capital one Savor 4% on dining and attractions.

Is that version of the Sam's club card no longer being offered? When I look it up it says 5% in gas and 3% on dining and travel. I already have a 5% gas card, so I was hoping to find a 5% on dining and travel.
I know about the CO Savor card also mentioned, but I think to grt the 4% there's an annual fee. Did the math and doesn't seem to be worth it for me

I don't find the every day benefits useful necessarily but I felt like the bonus points in spending from the amex blue to gold was night and day

Depends on what you plan to do with the MR. If you primarily fly Southwest, MR isn't helpful. Usually the best use of MR is international flight and/or business or first class from a cent per point basis. You could also do a cash out at 1.25 cent per point with Schwab. The primary benefits of Platinum are travel based, so with no travel it's not as useful.
As for your current accounts, a couple ideas. Make sure that you use the streaming and wireless credit on the platinums. You can buy gift cards at some groceries to get 4x back on them for Gold. And you can always call and ask for a retention offer and see what they give you. Since COVID folks have been getting 30K point offers for platinum.
Other cards: If you like Southwest, their cards are good. If you have a business you can try for companion pass next year. Also the Freedom Flex and Unlimited to pair with Sapphire.

They also run specials from time to time that gives you 5% back on things you buy from Samsclub online.

How? simply buy $500 gift cards at a grocery store and then use those gift cards on purchases that typically dont give extra cashback.

I only have an Amex because I work in the Amex hq building and the cafeteria/ stores only accept Amex or cash.
I got the everyday card since mostly was like small everyday purchases and after 20 transactions I got double points.
Other than that when I checkout their cards aren't great compared to others

Wife and I have Gold’s. One is plastic (mine) one is metal. We’ve had these for 5 years. I’m not sure there is a difference but your comment is making me thing so?
Don’t have the platinum but have biz reserve cards.
