How much pride is too much pride?

If the best player leaves, so be it. Just means we will get to see a young player that much sooner. Some of you really need to ease up on the emotional level with this stuff.
Honestly yes we love LSU and support them. But if you are a grown man and you are letting the decision of a 20 year old affect you, you may need to take a look in the mirror and examine some things.

Shitting on Chase for leaving = too much pride

I'm so tired of the parroted "don't let 20 year old's affect you" comments. Stating a dissenting opinion about another person's actions or decisions is not equal to being personally affected. I'm sure not going to lose sleep over it. And I haven't lost my appetite, nor have I snapped at someone because my mind was caught up in a "20 year old's decision".
I was 20 once. It wasn't that long ago. I seem to distinctly remember NOT wearing diapers, nor being immune to criticism at that age. 20 years old is not a kid. And I don't hate Chase or think that he's a terrible person. I simply believe in honoring commitments. Plenty of people have played entire seasons, already knowing they were almost sure fire first rounders. And it worked out just fine for them. Being scared of injury just kind of tells me something.

You’re talking to people who waste four hours of their day watching a game they have no control over.

I agree, next man up. They only have limited eligibility. If they don't want to be Tigers, it is their loss. I just regret that they took a scholarship from a kid that might have stuck around and made a difference. O will have to be more selective about who he offers scholarships to in the future.

It's a bullshite commitment. There are bogus, arbitrary rules that force a player to keep playing for free when he should be being paid for his ability. If I was the player I would rebel against that.

Agreed OP. We do have some fans that are just too obsessed with LSU football, and then will turn around and make fun of Bama fans for their obsession with football. LSU fans aren’t that far behind Bama fans

If only LSU (and it's donors) would supply these athletes with a free education, gourmet food and free housing, top notch health care, elite training facilities for the ones preparing for the next level, and significant amounts of cash under the table to the players and their families. And while we're at it, have them be idolized by the students and fan base. If this were to happen for the players, we would be talking about fair compensation. Oh....wait.

It’s entertainment. People spend hours of their day watching movies that they didn’t script.

They don't play for free.

Good lord, what a dumb post.

They're just as pitiful and pathetic as Bama Gumps; many on display here every day.

Posting this on a forum dedicated to those 20yr old kids playing also? If you don't care so much, then stop reading and go read book nerd.

I agree that some fans get a bit overly involved and sensitive on such issues and begin to make personal attacks on the players and their families. This is completely unacceptable. But I find this is also a minority of fans in the grand scheme of things; they just so happen to be the ones that yell loudest.
But there is also nothing wrong with being disappointed as a fan by a player leaving early, b/c at the end of the day, it makes the team you cheer for just a little less competitive and likely to be successful. Like the other poster said though, I don't think many fans are losing sleep or letting it affect their physical or mental well being b/c of it.
But players and their families also need to differentiate b/w the two and start understanding that it is okay for fans to be disappointed by a player's decision and to maybe even voice some frustration, provided that it doesn't get personal or go overboard. They also need to understand and quit painting a fan base with a broad brush as if these vocal minorities represent the majority.
