Getting ready to build a house and am looking at using radiant barrier roof sheathing. Any of y'all have experience with it? Seems like it actually works, but not sure if the additional cost is justified.

Looks like a standard OSB sheet is about $20 while a radiant sheet it $24.

Use the radiant barrier OSB.

Worth every penny more for the radiant OSB sheeting.

Same here with A/C temps. 75 during day. 70 at night. Unit rarely runs during the day. IMO, the extra expense of radiant barrier has paid itself off already.

This is a no-brainer on new construction. Absolutely no reason not to do it.

I have it on my house. I guess it helps as I have nothing to compare it to. it will diminish cell signal, like a farad cage baw, a tin foil hat if you will.

yes it works great but there is a small trade off in it keeps the attic cooler by trapping the heat on the roof decking itself so shingle life expectancy is shortened

I can see this being a problem with the barrier sheathing, so installing a radiant barrier on the underside of the rafters is a much better idea, right? I don't have any hard numbers, but it seems like doing it this way could even lower temps on the roof if designed properly. If you contain the hot air between the rafters, it seems like you can get really good air flow coming in the soffit and out the ridge.

Has anyone had WiFi issues after installing radiant barrier? I’ve heard the cell signal is affected to some degree but I’m mostly worried about WiFi. It would just be radiant barrier stapled to the rafters In attic and not in the walls of the house.

I don't see how wifi, which originates inside the home, could be affected by radiant barriers on the perimeter of the home.

I put this on my house when I built in 2009. I have had A/C repair guys comment on how much cooler my attic is than most of the ones they go in.

Back then it was about $4/sheet difference as well.
If you use 60-70 sheets of decking on your roof you are only talking about $250-$300 difference in cost.

Even if it helps with energy efficiency by 1% it is worth it over the life of your home.

This... and those shingle problems get to be way more costly, especially when you don't catch them immediately.
