fanning is mimicking their tail fan movement, I think.

I just googled.... it's crawling up on 'em behind a fan of tail feathers, then BANG! apparently it is pretty successful tactic.

Hardly "fair chase" and might get you peppered with shot. Why not just resort to a scoped 17HMR if you can't seem to call the turkey to you?

I wish it was outlawed here To me, there are turkeys that aren’t supposed to be killed especially early season That old Tom that flies to the middle of the field and struts all day with his harem loses his mind when he sees a fan and is now very killable
Turkey populations across the southeast are hurting and this could help get more hens bred before the dominant bird gets shot

Then they should cut the amount taken to acceptable levels.
I don’t get how a person can say fanning/reaping for turkeys is wrong, but then say a decoy is ok.
Or that a turkey coming to a fan is wrong but one coming to rattling horns is not.
How bout doe P I mean poor old buck hasn’t had a piece in 12
Months and someone puts some tinks 69 dripping how’s that poor ol buck not come in with a hard on??!!

I don’t get how a person can say fanning/reaping for turkeys is wrong, but then say a decoy is ok.
Or that a turkey coming to a fan is wrong but one coming to rattling horns is not.

If you can get close enough to kill it with a scythe I have to believe that is about as fair chase as it gets...

It is astonishing how much better Turkey hunters are today at killing Turkeys than they were in the 70's and 80's...and it ain't just a population of birds different. Back in the day we hunted turkeys as a excuse to get out of the house but not go fishing....but it is a serious undertaking today and even a moderately interested hunter is capable of doing extremely well compared to what we used to do...killing a bird every 3 years or so wouldve made you the Turkey Master in Georgia in the late 70's. I hear kids at gun shows today trying out calls that sound better than the best caller in the world could do in the 70s....and the attention to hiding is unbeleivable...we would wear shorts and T-shirts back in the day and there'd be 3 - 4 of us tramping through the woods sounding like an army of Cossacks invading a Jewish Village.....we had no idea how hard killing a Turkey was LOL....and didn't kill many. I talk to people about Turkey hunting now and they sound like tournament bass fisherman with their theories and plans and the results are amazing. Thats probably got a lot to do with numbers being down if they are...yall are just too damned good at hunting the things. Go back to hunting in shorts and T shirts and calling with a ball point pen...seriously, we did that....and I will bet the populations rebound nicely!

In my experience killing an Eastern or Osceola any kind of way is fair....the bastards are plain old wily. Merriams, on the other hand...not so much...they would ride the short bus to school if they ever were interested in anything other than eating and fricking...they aren't...and education would be completely lost on one of these mentally challenged frickers. They are, at times, so easy to call and kill doing so seems like a unfair chase. At times in New Mexico the damned things almost have to be ran off to keep from flaring ducks....I used to hunt the Pecos river just east and south of Roswell, adjacent to a state park...anyone interested can find the area....and the damned turkeys were a nuisance...they were thick as doves and would inevitable run into the middle of a goose or crane spread at the most inopportune time...almost like a welcoming committee for their cousins from Canada. Coyotes in that area THRIVED on them....their carcasses were thick....but they didn't make a dent in their numbers...and it is all public land and almost no one hunts it!

I have known a bunch of sailors who have spent time in Taiwan and the Phillipines and they all agreed Fanning/Reaping with a man lady was very succesful....

Seriously....this works???? I can't imagine a damn turkey falling for this. The damned things only get laid once a year and if they wake up morning they were going to get laid and it is a little too cool or rainy or conditions aren't perfect for Turkey romance they will wait until they are...even if it means another year. I have been married a long time so I don't get laid much more than a Turkey but by damn when it is time to do so there ain't nothing going to stop that 90 seconds!!!! Kids banging on the door, inlaws calling to borrow money, the house being on fire..ima get some...a Turkey is a strange bird indeer....
