You're not going to get kidnapped in Istanbul. It's one of the most visited cities in the world even with the Erdogan mess.

Turkey = Anatolia in Asia and Thrace in Europe.

Applying the term Middle East to it is a more recent phenomenon. It was historically from a British point of view considered part of the Near East which included the Balkans and Levant. The Middle East was the Caucasus, Iran and Central Asia. Far East was Burma and beyond.

ETA: And Western Armenia in Asia as well.

Geopolitically it leans much more Middle East. It’s got a dictator for starters.

Either way, ther is no way we should have them in NATO. Ok, Russia invades Turkey, and we go to WWIII? Complete BS. They have already shot down a Russian plane. They had an attempted coup less than 20 years ago.

I went there 20 years ago. The beaches and restaurants were awesome. Not sure of the situation today.

All that matters is that they are a country that’s in a region that doesn’t value human life. That’s all that matters

I have a cousin who has traveled quite a bit, he mentioned that Istanbul was his favorite city that he’s been to. When we were planning our honeymoon in 2012/2013 it was near the top of our list until some asshoe suicide bombed himself outside of a church there.

Very famous for kidnapping blonde European girls.

I'm guessing they end up in Saudi or UAE.
