And also give me back all of my contributions that i have made over the years while we are at it.
this is how I would be ok with them doing away with Social Security. I am 42 and have been paying taxes since I was 14, officially working and on payrolls. 28 years of my life have been paying into a system that they abuse and that people who put in less are drawing from. Give me back my money, hell I will even not charge interest (which I should be wanting) to get out of it and invest how I want.

They should be eliminated, and you should keep those funds. As someone said above you are much better off investing those funds then uncle Sam is.

So how do you want to go about taxing money that’s already been taxed before? Just keep taxing it until it’s gone?

Maybe we are missing the point. Most of your tax dollars don’t actually go to programs. They go to places like Ukraine (1.8 trillion) and then it gets kicked back to crooks like Biden.
I’m of the belief you can run government off a flat 20-25% sales tax. You streamline government combine fed/Irs. You create a thriving buyers market because everyone will keep their earnings. You also keep crooked politicians from the racket they’ve been running from decades by eliminating these elaborate schemes.

Yes it is a scam , I could do better with MY money.
So what ?
Do you drive down the road tossing cash out the window ?
Again, it’s not a retirement account and not an investment. You'll need one of those also. Go do better with your money with your retirement account, for social security it is a safety net there in case you lose everything. It's to catch Americans so that when they get older if something happens there's a net to catch them so that they don't hit the absolute bottom with nothing and end up having tons of homeless old people on the streets.
That’s not a scam.

I don’t understand your point.

You build wealth from taxable earnings then you’re wanting to tax it again as a wealth tax. How many times do you want to tax the same money?
Posted on 8/9/20 at 8:45 am to DavidTheGnome
Yes it is. It is a Ponzi scheme to protect the irresponsible.

For those wanting to do away with SS the way it would have to work is you’ll just have to view the money already paid into as a sunk cost and won’t be getting it back. There's not a SS bank account for you that you can withdraw your funds, it’s setup so that everybody's contribution to the pot goes out to all the recipients.
And to be honest if we did away with it we’d have to pick an age that’s young enough to save for retirement (say 40) and we’ll call that the Fricked Generation. They’ll have to keep paying SS to support all the old fricks who depend on it but would have to be of the understanding they’ll never receive a dime.

It’s a draconian penalty to penalize employers who have already paid their employees and take all the liability if the business fails.
You can also deduct a portion of these

Nah, you do that on the MSB instead, which is really where you should stay.

So you’re going to have to liquidate assets to pay tax on them? What if “wealth” is tied up in the stock market? You gonna pay a tax on an imaginary number that fluctuates daily?
If you have to. I'm all about lowering barriers to starting businesses and creating wealth.

I am in favor of every employee paying their own taxes every quarter. Basically, make everyone a 1099. It would wake a lot of people up to just how much they pay.
Anyone that thinks the "employer" pays anything for the "employee" doesn't remotely understand how businesses work. Yes, the employer match appears to come from the employer but its really just part of employee total costs.
Similarly, businesses don't really pay taxes. Its figured into the cost of their product (goods or services).

Agreed. It should be set on fire and gone.

How about you?
Your name may be on the payment to the IRS but those that buy your goods and services actually pay it. If they raised your rates tomorrow, you would push the added cost to your clients. Don't be all uppity!

If Trump defunds SS and Medicare, how exactly do you propose to get anything?

So how many times would you like to tax a person’s money?

Social Security is a fricking scam. They take it from our checks, tell us at what age we can start to withdraw it, tell us how much of OUR money we can get every month and the worst part is , when you die your family only gets a $256 death benefit even if your account has several hundreds of thousands of dollars in it.
Hell yes it is. My father died a few years ago at 67. In a fair system my mother SHOULD get to draw both his and her SS. Nope, she only gets whichever one is higher and that's it. So if my fathers SS was 609 a month, and my mothers was 580 a month she'd get a 609 check not 1389 which she should because they both worked their whole damn lives and paid it in.
Now, another lady who lives down the road never worked an MFing day in her life. Never paid a dime in SS. Her husband died at age 68, and she gets to keep drawing his entire SS check. So, the lady that didn't work a day in her life could possibly draw more than my mother who worked for 40 something years. Bull f'ing shite. Just give me my damn money.
