From Joe Alleva:

We have to keep the PMAC up to date," Alleva said. "When we built the track, it was state-of-the art. Now, there are plenty of tracks better. The indoor track facility is poor. That really hurts the track program.

"We have to modernize the aquatics center. We have to have indoor tennis courts to compete at the highest level. We have a top ten gymnastics team which needs a practice facility. We are going to look at prioritizing the facility improvements."

We have a long way to go with a lot of our Olympic Sports. I know some people don't care but I say if we're going to play it, we should try to when it. I'm amazed how good we consistantly are in men's tennis when we have bar none the worst facilities in the league.

Somebody needs to drag Alleva over to the ancient LSU Band Hall. NOTHING should be built until a new band facility is under construction.....

I think his title is "Athletics Director", I do know about you, but i also take pride in seeing the othe programs flurish.

I i do believe track has earned a revamp of it's facilities, how many titles have they won?

I have no problem with spending money on them, their operations are already paid for by football as it has been for decades. They can exist because of that funding. Why do we have to have the best in the nation cooled and heated indoor olympic pool fourth string practice facility, or whatever they dream up next.

It is getting to a ridiculous point, a reasonable schedule of facility improvements on sports that less than a thousand people per year go to see should be one major improvement per year, they are going balls to the walls on everything and that will spread things to thin.

This is exactly why they have to have 7.5-8 home games to make budget (tulane series is either a whole or half home game by revenue) which creates a problem for scheduling purposes. This is exactly why there are no good OOC games.

It is not fair to say that it doesn't cost football anything to make these better, it costs it scheduling ability. W/O VA TECH no national championship last year, and we don't have anything like that down the pike precisely because women's teatherball practice facilities create a budget problem.

If I hear about this one more time.

FYI- they're like the next thing to begin construction on. The band recruits won't be looking elswhere much longer.

On the national level, and even on the world stage, LSU track and field stands above all other current university sports. Though they don't bring in the same money as football, to host world class athletes, you need world class facilities.

agreed. I'm a big LSU track fan and it stuns me to see the softball team get a new facility before a 31-time national championship sport. I know softball needed a new facility bad, but track was much more deserving.

You guys are in the enviable position of having the resources needed for 1st class facilities and to fully fund non-revenue sports. These kids are some of your best ambassadors for LSU, so be proud you can provide them with 1st class facilities. Hopefully, you can do this without increasing football ticket prices, which are already a bit steep, IMO.

i also have baseball season tickets, and go to some basketball and track stuff. I concede track has a very reasonable argument, but it won't stop there.

Also, I had a friend who was on the women's golf team in school. I do not disparage their committment. She worked hard b/c they practiced quite often.

That said, money doesn't grow on trees and when you are harming the very thing that funds all this (by limiting scheduling ability) you are putting it all in jeopardy.

My daughter's swam at the Aquatic Center...What a joke. It is an embarrasment to the school.

LSU is not even in the SEC Conference Championship rotation because the facility is so sub-standard. (Wonder how many of you knew that) If LSU could provide upgraded facilities to the swimmers, they would attract a better quality and probably contend with the Auburn's and Florida's for conference honors. They've won national championships. We've never come close. But, I guess we need to wait our turn.
