Love that place. Tons of great little towns along the pacific coast in WA. It's just a shame the state government is dominated by the batshit insane proggies from Seattle.
The lack of an income tax makes it more tolerable from the Seattle driven craziness. Plus the public initiative system has done a good job of keeping things in check. $30 car tabs passed, again.

Highland or Cashiers, NC... would retire there in a heartbeat.
I didn’t take you for the Woke type that Highland/ Cashiers/Asheville are becoming.

Small towns are not states.

Senoia GA. But it too will be swallowed up by ATL soon.

Salem, MA would be my vote for a charming small town.
Would have gone with Asheville, NC but wife and I visited it again after three years and wow what a dump it’s become. Incredibly sad.

Humble, Texas. Outside of Houston. 10 minutes from major airport. Lots of places to eat and outlet malls.

Lived there in the 70s. I’m sure it’s changed a lot since then but was a quaint little town.
Population is still less than 4,000, but Oak Island has close to 10,000 permanent residents now. And the growth in the southern part of Brunswick County is crazy as well. Calabash, Carolina Shores, OIB, Sunset...all have been heavily developed in my lifetime.
