To those who have lost someone to suicide

First off, I am sorry for your loss.
My question is were there any signs leading up to it?
A friend of mine’s cousin just took his own life. He seemed like a happy fella with a lot going for him. My biggest fear is losing a loved one

You typically don't realize you saw the signs until after it happens. A lot of folks going through depression are scared to be a burden on their friends and family so they stay quiet about it.

Hindsight is always 20/20
There’s always signs but you don’t realize it until after the fact.

Some are obvious.
Some you never know are dealing with it because of the stigma that depression has.
Lost 3 friends to it.
Knew all 3 had it stayed in contact daily and still they lost their battle with the demon that is depression.

Lost two people I know to it. One of them there was absolutely no signs and it still puzzles me to this day. The other struggled with drugs and alcohol and it was always at the back of my mind but never something I actually thought would happen.

I have. I do not know what they were thinking, really. It was similar to your friend.
One thing my Pops always said that put it into perspective a bit is, "You never know what devils a person is fighting."
While that offers little solace, I've never heard anything more true.

I lost my sister in 2014. There were not signs for me. I talked to her that day multiple times, but she did not tell me. She hid it well. After her passing my family told me it was not her first attempt, they just did not want to tell me. I've never been more pissed at people for not telling me something.
If anyone ever has any suicidal thoughts or has lost someone I am always available at Gmail.

My former boss’s daughter in law committed suicide yesterday. The family has been gut punched, such a tragic loss.

Worked with a very good dude who's wife left him and got the kids.It tore him up. His work fell off and he lost his job. We found he committed suicide a few months later.
Hard to say what goes on in the human mind. I imagine things snowball downhill and lead to it, but I got to think there is a negative foundation there that can lead to it.
We really need more research and resources there for those who struggle with depression.
Tough stuff.

Thank you. 6 years later I finally started grief counseling. Its pretty easy to just ignore loss and melt down at times. So I always want people to know they can talk to me. Sometimes you don't need a therapist but just someone to vent to.

Hold up I was just prescribed ambien for my insomnia. Should I be worried?

There have been some TDers that have unfortunately lost a battle that was too much to bear. The one I knew showed no signs (on TD or in real life)

Same here. Especially a child. I talked to my kids just last week about the impact of suicide on families and encouraged them to always be there for friends who exhibit signs of depression.
But as I was talking to them I was also scared of the possibility that one of my own could be struggling silently and we'd never know.
My kids are all teens now and it's a real concern.

Yep. Maybe not for suicide, though. Do some good research before you feel you’re dependent upon it for sleep.
I’ve heard some crazy arse stories from people who take it.
Also, try melatonin. 10mg knocks me the fk out, and I have insomnia pretty bad.
