Early morning weekday old men pace of play

I am not a retired old man, but since I am furloughed currently I was able to get out this morning and tee off at 6:30 with a buddy. I haven’t played that early on a weekday in years and I forgot how damn fast those old retired early birds play
We teed off at 6:30, and we were done by 10:00, had to let 2 groups of old men through who were determined to finish in under 2 hours I guess
I had forgotten about this, if you take a practice swing or try and read a putt those guys are pissed, i’m all for maintaining a good pace of play, but the early morning weekday retired guy has one mission in life, play as fast as humanly possible. I swear these guys don’t even put half the time, once they get it on the green the pick it up and go to the next hole, maybe they’ll putt once if they are more then 20 ft away, but it’s walk up and putt, no reading the green or practicing the stroke. My buddy topped a drive, and when we stopped so he could hit his second shot from about 50 yards away from the Teebox one of the old men started screaming at him to pick it up and move it closer to the hole
God bless these guys, I can easily play in less than three hours by myself, but to do it as a foursome is damn impressive, I don’t imagine they care much about their score and their gimme distance must be 10 feet

If it took you 3 1/2 hours to play 18 holes as a twosome, you might be the problem.
I play with some old guys at 7:10 every morning and we're done by 10:10. And two of them walk.

I refuse to play any earlier than noon for this very reason.
ETA my experience is that old men are slow

Played with my cousins father in law one day at Carter. Group in front of us was cruising but stopped for the drink cart. His father in law came undone, Guy was fuming that they didn’t get everything they needed before teeing off.
He was 70+ years old and I’ve never seen an old man in such a rush.

That’s the way it should be

Ones at our club race around the course to get inside for booze and cards. They are done in 2.5 hours.

Hate people who play fast.
I’ve blocked my day out to include a round of golf. I’m in no rush. I’ve set the time aside in my day to be at the golf course.
Can’t tell you the grief I’ve gotten from strangers when I don’t “give them” a 3 footer. Or when I putt my 2 footer in. The hole isn’t done until the ball goes in the cup is what I always tell them. You wouldn’t give an NFL team 6 points for reaching the redzone.
I’ll read my putt from both sides and take as much damn time as I need.
Now if I’m a single or a twosome, I typically do play under 4 hours. But it’s certainly not a goal.
Why even golf if you’re just running through the course. Take up field hockey or something else

It's crazy how those old men do it. I had a group behind me the other day and watched them when the got around the green. They were chipping at the same time and not waiting on each other. Each hit one putt and considered the next a gimmee, hardly glanced at a line on the first putt and scooped the second even if it was 5' away. I swear they don't even care about the golf, they just want to fly around out there

I hate slow play so i usually play around 7 am on the weekends. Usually play 4 and we play about 3.5 and under per round. My dad plays 3 times a week and they literally fly around the course and it’s not even enjoyable to me. When I’m older and play 3-5 times a week, speed will be the goal. I’m on the course once a week usually and i want to enjoy my time out there.
