Early morning weekday old men pace of play

I am not a retired old man, but since I am furloughed currently I was able to get out this morning and tee off at 6:30 with a buddy. I haven’t played that early on a weekday in years and I forgot how damn fast those old retired early birds play
We teed off at 6:30, and we were done by 10:00, had to let 2 groups of old men through who were determined to finish in under 2 hours I guess
I had forgotten about this, if you take a practice swing or try and read a putt those guys are pissed, i’m all for maintaining a good pace of play, but the early morning weekday retired guy has one mission in life, play as fast as humanly possible. I swear these guys don’t even put half the time, once they get it on the green the pick it up and go to the next hole, maybe they’ll putt once if they are more then 20 ft away, but it’s walk up and putt, no reading the green or practicing the stroke. My buddy topped a drive, and when we stopped so he could hit his second shot from about 50 yards away from the Teebox one of the old men started screaming at him to pick it up and move it closer to the hole
God bless these guys, I can easily play in less than three hours by myself, but to do it as a foursome is damn impressive, I don’t imagine they care much about their score and their gimme distance must be 10 feet

If it took you 3 1/2 hours to play 18 holes as a twosome, you might be the problem.
I play with some old guys at 7:10 every morning and we're done by 10:10. And two of them walk.

3 1/2 hours is a very realistic amount of time for a casual round of golf... I’m not complaining about these guys I just forgot that their mission is to race around the course

These are the types of guys I’m talking about, bless them and their lightning golf

I refuse to play any earlier than noon for this very reason.
ETA my experience is that old men are slow

3.5 hours is too damn long for a foursome much less a twosome

Not in Dallas, 3 1/2 hrs is booking it! Some course on the weekend take 5 hrs

Am I in the minority in that I don't really care how long a round lasts (within reason).
I mean, I'm outside, having fun...so why rush that?
Do I want to be out there for 6-hours...no, but I don't get the guys that scream about a 4-hour round.

Yea as long as you are getting around in 4 hours you are fine, obviously singles will play way faster, but if you are playing with 2-4 people then 4 hrs and you are golden
ETA:
Yea some guys act like they’d rather be anywhere else, like why are you in such a damn rush? As long as you are maintaining pace of play. Sometimes as a single or even twosome I’ll start to get frustrated with the group ahead then I realize we are on hole 8 and have played an hr and a half, right on pace, I need to quit my bitching

Played with my cousins father in law one day at Carter. Group in front of us was cruising but stopped for the drink cart. His father in law came undone, Guy was fuming that they didn’t get everything they needed before teeing off.
He was 70+ years old and I’ve never seen an old man in such a rush.

Your weekend old man foursome is slow as hell and won’t let you play through. Your 6:30am weekday old man 3some is Kevin Na trying to break the record for fastest round ever

I’m with you here. I used to get upset when playing a 4.5+ hour round on the weekend but I realized I live in Houston and that’s a good pace on the weekend. I have an uncle and a cousin that I know it will probably be a 4.5+ hour round anytime they play and I don’t play with them regularly but once a month I’m fine with it.
I don’t try to rush but i do want my group to keep pace with the group ahead.

That’s the way it should be

Oh yea I’m all for playing fast don’t get me wrong, slow unaware play can be very annoying. I just don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking 10 seconds to read your putt or not giving yourself every putt inside 15 ft

This, and those week day old baws can fricking score too, they can get up and down from anywhere.

The weekend old man group is a nightmare.

The old man group I know is fast. 4some done in 3 hours or so. They have some decent golfers though.
If you’re a twosome, 3 hours is way too long if no one is in front of you.

For sure, I mean they probably play the same course at the same day 5 days a week. It definitely adds to their speed, they chip it up there to 3 ft and their playing partner just whacks it back to them, move along to the next hole

First of all this is ridiculous. 3 hrs for 2 people is a perfectly normal length of a round, in fact I bet the average 2some takes longer than 3 hours, most the courses I play have a pace of of play posted and they are generally ~4 hours.
2nd of all, there was a group in front of us. Me and the guy i was playing with usually clock a round in right under 3 hours if no one is in our way

Ones at our club race around the course to get inside for booze and cards. They are done in 2.5 hours.
