Yea I'm sure Saban would jump at the opportunity to make 100K a year coaching when he alone is the reason the stands are full
Yeah, colleges have been so successful at avoiding the discussion about how they can stop players from receiving compensation/income that people actually think they have the ability to just cap things.
I'm sure Saban will voluntarily take a pay cut along with the other coaches.
Nice post.

no more academic advisors/tutors

Bryant and Bud Wilkinson INVENTED modern "cheat at any costs" college football

College football has NEVER operated this way. Read up on the early power houses prior to 1900. Not only were their rosters filled with recruits , but also paid players. Many of the “star” players changed their names as they changed schools.

He also had a solution for violations.

I have similar thoughts. Time to take the money out of college football. The less there is, the better the sport will be.
I personally think AD budgets should be limited by the NCAA or whatever ruling authority. It should be such that winning is determined completely on the practice field and the games.

Yeah but the problem is the players can receive money from third parties. Big time college sports is set for a massive fall, small time college sports will go on like normal.
Also, if budgets are limited that is most probably an anti-trust violation as that filters down.

I’d watch D-II if it was the only option. But it’s not the only option, so I don’t, currently.

D2 Univ of North Alabama of the 80s and especially the 90s was one of the hottest teams I ever saw. They have now moved up to D1 non-power5.

So basically Saban ruined college football.

It is no different than a salary cap. NCAA membership is completely voluntary. There is not even a remote chance at anti-trust because there would be no money being pocketed by anyone.
Also, amateur status wouldn't be ignored. You get paid for play, you are not eligible.

Pro sports have anti-trust exemptions, which I believe should be removed although not the subject of the thread.
Whether the NCAA membership is voluntary or not is immaterial, as forming an agreement to stop or impede trade i.e. compensation is improper or illegal in nature.
The NCAA really has no ability to stop compensation legally to players or coaches or staff, although they have been pretty successful of staying out of jail by trying to stop the players... that is over now or soon will be.
What the schools (by and thru the NCAA) did was setup a racket, the gig is up now or soon will be... what you propose is actually a continuing and even an expanding the racket that is beginning stages of crumbling. Let me give you a hint, everyone knows what the colleges have been doing is illegal, but the gig is up now.

Do you plan on banning televised games? Because if the games are on tv, billions of dollars will be in the sport one way or the other. Who do you think should get those billions?

Incorrect. That is no different for the current NCAA. People keep grasping on to anti-trust bullshite with no understanding what the NCAA is and isn't.

No. Just limit the amount of money the NCAA and schools can bring in off televised games. TV companies will all pay the same price to broadcast the games and it would be dirt cheap. The TV companies can make as much money as they want off it.
TV companies can bid for rights of certain conferences by the perks offered like extra coverage, dedicated channels, more coverage for smaller sports, etc.
If you eliminate anyone associated with colleges from profiting off it it, the issues go away.

Not sure what that even means, its an association setup by the schools they are not exemption from federal or state law.

Who is limiting the amount of money?

I don't feel like that would be possible using just the guys from the student body that show up for practice in the fall. I would think that, in order to get through a long schedule like that, you would need players who are dedicated to being an athlete. Guys who have gone through workouts and training to be prepared for a season like that.
Then how are high school teams able to do it?

Didn’t he cheat a LOT? I mean, if everyone but him played by what he proposed, I assume that he would never lost.
He was the best coach of his generation.
