The NBA returned on Thursday night to bumper TV ratings for TNT. A thrilling showdown between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers drew 3.4 million total viewers, more than doubling the network's average viewership for a regular season telecast.

Although this board wants to cancel the NBA, it appears viewership isn’t hurting in the least.

That’s it? First meaningful sports game in over 4 months. Check back in a week bub

ETA See Trump Tulsa rally ratings for reference... 4 times more people tuned in to watch a political rally!

It’s the first game but I’d expect they will be strong given it’s basically the playoffs and fans that would otherwise attend have to watch on tv. Next season is when things will get interesting.

It is hard for me to boycott the NBA now because I never watched them before...

Basketball is by far the most boring sport ever invented. I would rather watch to old guys play chess at a nursing home.

There were definitely people that just wanted to watch the train wreck. That viewership will drop in half in less than a week.
I will watch first hour of NFL this year just so I can remind myself why I won’t watch anymore for the whole season.

Haven't watched it since the Larry Bird, Dr J, and Magic days.

I basically can't stomach the game anymore. It has devolved in to nothing more than "traveling" and dunk ball

Right, it’s really not that impressive. I hope he returns tomorrow to let us know what the NBA ratings for today’s games were

He won’t be back

Did you think that the 1st regular season game of any sport in the US after 5 months of no sports would not be watched?

Because the only game being played of the only sport being played after 5 months of nothing is probably going to attract eyeballs

Pop the champagne when this happens 3 months from now when other sports are going on. Not to mention the competing sports will have MULTIPLE games going on at the same time.

Not one!
