Asheville has become too touristy for its own good.

I love Knoxville, especially West Knoxville. Such a serene, peaceful, clean city.

Too bad we only have one former WWE wrestler that lives here, but I don't think he would make a good mayor.

Tennessee has competent politicians. We have SWB, John Bel, and Destroya. And on the side we have Gravy who thinks he's relevant.

The actual Knoxville mayor is a democrat, but she seems pretty reasonable. Certainly reasonable compared to SWB or Destroya. She's been all about the masks, but bars and restaurants are still open.

Kane is the county mayor, no consolidated government over here, although things like the school system are county-wide.

I always forget how frickin’ bad y’all have it down there

At least in GA, KLB’s tardery is countered by Kemp.

Knoxville TN >>> Asheville NC

I said it

Well duh.

Downtown Knoxville doesn't have nearly the amounts of unwashed BO and hairy chicks that downtown Asheville does.

Although I did appreciate the number of college age women walking around Asheville that are against wearing bras.

Is one of those pics the Chimney Tops? One with dude stand on top?

Haven’t been on vacation in E. Tennessee in almost 2 decades. We used to legit backpack and camp.

What's the statue situation?

Knoxville does have the Alex Haley statue.

The statue of the women of the Suffragette movement.

Pat Summitt

and

Robert Neyland

Knoxville is pretty much devoid of any Confederate Statues...East Tennessee mostly sided with the Union in the Civil War.

Knoxville is a sweet little place. Mountains with a river. Pretty cool. And they get snow.

Knoxville Demographics
According to the most recent ACS, the racial composition of Knoxville was:

White: 75.25%
Black or African American: 17.55%
Two or more races: 2.99%
Other race: 1.84%
Asian: 1.82%
Native American: 0.47%
Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander: 0.08%

Don't give 2 shits about demographics. How does Knoxville vote?

What neighborhoods would you suggest for a couple looking to downsize and lose a big mortgage. Looking for a smallish <1500sq ft house in a good neighborhood. Close to mtn biking trails a plus.

Do you have school aged kids? If so, that should be your first question.

The general advice is to avoid East Knoxville.

Knoxville is an awesome city and like you said, big enough to have a bunch of activities but small enough to not feel overcrowded and defined by the downtown area.

The breweries suck though, it's Balter and everyone else. Hi wire is decent but not really local and not in a great area.

One of the weirdest things to me about Knoxville is that it doesn't really seem to have much of a college bar scene.

I don't really care at this point in my life, but where do UT kids go? There are only a few bars on Cumberland, it's mostly chain restaurants and shite now.

They head to downtown proper for the most part now days. Gay St, Market Square, The Old City and The South Knox waterfront areas when they arent on Cumberland Ave or partying in The Fort.

For decades up until the early to mid 2000's the bar scene on the strip was really solid. The issue started with the commercialization of Cumberland and rent continuously being raised and the small business owners being priced out. Aesthetically the strip looks much better than it did pre rennovations but most of the bars have been priced out and replaced with multi story student apartments.
